Daniel, do you have any other network connection (wireless over USB,
ethernet etc.) active at the same time? And you can safely put the
parameters in /etc/resolv.conf, my configuration hasn't changed even

I have used this workaround for a LaCie DVD RW (being used as a USB hard
drive adapter): 059f:0363 (I obtain the usb id for my particular
enclosure using `lsusb`).

Recently, after upgrading a machine from 12.04 to 14.04 I noticed that
neither keyboard nor network would work, making it rather hard to
resolve the situation.
Upon further investigation, it turned out that this was because the
linux-image-extra package was missing, and that
I am not sure if there is a newer version of the same bug. My mouse
freezes sometimes as well. It happens only when I use the touchpad. I
found a workaround, and will leave it here for the time being.

It turns out that the "dirname not found" error is a red herring because
it also occurs with previous kernel and doesn't prevent booting.
With the problematic kernel, giving the wrong password doesn't ask to
enter the password so it seems it's not even verified. So whatever the
password used,
