@Yonatan -- thanks for the patch. Although your patch fixes the
immediate crash it does leave us with an empty auto line which is at
least nominally invalid. Will work up a more comprehensive patch and
get that out to the list for review.

So for Yakkety this fix is released as it is already included within the
upstream kernel.
For Xenial they proposed the patch on their mailing list, where it was already
acked. Does it make sense to ping on the status for xenial?
The package has been published and the bug is being set to Fix Released

I again have the same issue. Although not everytime. Its hard to reason
why it hangs at times. If it happens frequently will reinstall the
kernel once again.

There was a patch about acpi fan control last month. The original issue might
got solved by it.
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/84baf1725dc532d9746df2d216c1921154767109
Although I don't know the ACPI drivers at all, I hope that these patches
could be backport to the LTS release, but
You may need to run the following from a terminal:
sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
Then re-install the package or updates.
If that does not resolve your issue, please mark the bug as "Confirmed"
