Partially I solved the problem with Cougar 500K.
The problem lies in the fact that this keyboard has three interfaces (in terms
of USB), for the first two (keyboard and mouse) the kernel attaches the input

I still haven't found workaround for any of our problems with ASUS laptops.
Kernel developer who in the past solved Elan touchpad issues on my previous two
ASUS laptops told me that this time he unfortunately can't help me because my
current problem is something with the elan_i2c driver. Conseque

It sounds like the upstream 4.4 kernel does not have the bug per
comments #10 and #12.
It appears this bug may be caused by a SAUCE patch that is not in the
upstream kernel. To confirm that, can you test the upstream 4.4.44
kernel, which is what 4.4.0-64.85 is based on?

Hard to say at the moment. The machine is on 24/7 and is serving a
rather large company. I might be able to try to shut it down for
sometime late Friday. But can't promise anything. If I do should expect
the mainline kernel NOT to change the interfaces names ?
