I will test the latest upstream kernel.
I think the problem wasn't there on version: 4.4.0-71-generic. With this
kernel we had another problem which was fixed in 4.4.0-87-generic so we
switched over to this version.

fyi, I have a patch set prepared for this in the Debian bug. I'd like to
see that uploaded in Debian before integrating it in Ubuntu because, if
Debian chooses a different solution, it will be difficult to back that
that out and resync. I've sent a ping to the Debian bug today.

I seem to have lost my wireless and the use of the few fn buttons that were
working after the upgrading to this kernel but here is what you asked for.
I don't think pressing the buttons gives any dmesg output. Another thing I
noticed is that fn+print screen (SysRq) acts as if just print screen was

I have added a dependency on the earlier bug, 150738, that added
the commits that are pre-requisite. Those commits are not in 4.13.
