I have a crontab entry on my desktop to suspend the system to memory at
11pm and resume at 7am every day. Because the desktop has graphical
artifacts on resume, I log out before it suspends. When I log back in,
this same error is shown.
I do not get this error when resuming if I use the suspend
The attached /var/log/cloud-init.log has 2 boots in it.
One starts at 14:15:18 (line 1) and one starting at 14:21:17,808 (line 719).
The first boot successfully updated the partition table for /dev/sda
so that the first partition (/dev/sda1) took the whole ~ 10G disk.

4.14-rc6 is even worse -- I can't wake the machine after suspend at all,
except by rebooting with long-press of the power button.
I tested other mainline kernels too. All 4.13-based mainline kernels I

No change with fans on Ubuntu 17.10 for me. By default lowest state for
package is C2. After setting all tunables to good C3, but does not solve
the issue though.

No, it's only in the 4.4 xenial kernel.

Update firmware for 4.12
I tried kernel 4.14.0-041400rc6.
System still fails to resume on RX 480 with it.
When I was removing the test kernel the last four line were worrying:
The link /vmlinuz is a damaged link
Removing symbolic link vmlinuz
you may need to re-run your boot loader[grub]

The bug affects me as well, same machine. In the mean time, to avoid rebooting,
you can reload the module, as super user:
modprobe -r psmouse
modprobe psmouse
This fix the problem for me.
