[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1682921] Re: sluggish system, kernel errors on Inspiron 1525
Ok, I originally posted on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1731784 1731784 has been marked as duplicate as this one after I did an "upstream" report (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=106422) and Intel engineers investigated to attach it to a "TV-Out" issue with this proposed workaround by the time they (unlikely) find the bug. I can do a new ticket -when I'll have access to the hardware- if this helps tracking, although that would be another duplicate (or do we say "triplicate" in this case!) For the record, the ticket for upstream was done with the drm-debug kernel that I compiled especially to have more messages dumped in dmesg and help Intel engineers. Do you need the "ubuntu-bug linux" with the kernel I compiled especially (4.17) or shall I issue the command on the stock Ubuntu kernel for 18.04 (4.15)? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1682921 Title: sluggish system, kernel errors on Inspiron 1525 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Starting in 16.10, this machine started taking forever to boot. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1682921] Re: sluggish system, kernel errors on Inspiron 1525
Hi, I will provide the confirmation (or not!) that this is a complete workaround, along with the same confirmation on the "upstream" ticket I opened for that bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=106422 Same as Kevin, the hardware is not mine, and I have to wait to have direct access to it to really check that all goes well (the person using the hardware is not an I.T. person, and can only switch it on and do basic things) The test will be done next week (between June 2nd and June 10th) The 'clean' workaround would then be: - edit /etc/default/grub and replace: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" with: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash video=SVIDEO-1:d" - issue sudo update-grub That is to be sure the option sticks even when patched kernels are proposed by the repository. ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #106422 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=106422 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1682921 Title: sluggish system, kernel errors on Inspiron 1525 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Starting in 16.10, this machine started taking forever to boot. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1682921] Re: sluggish system, kernel errors on Inspiron 1525
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.11 kernel[0]. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed". Thanks in advance.
