The patch in #7 is already in latest Cosmic kernel. Does it solve the

from somewhere (self-baken or found in a repository of a future ubuntu-
version) I could be lucky and everything works as with kernel 4.16?

Reverting this should restore normal operation.

Yes, tried an unsigned kernel of [0] (linux-image-
unsigned-4.19.0-041900-generic_4.19.0-041900.201810221809_amd64.deb with
linux-
modules-4.19.0-041900-generic_4.19.0-041900.201810221809_amd64.deb) and
it shows exactly the same behaviour as cosmic's default kernel.
