[kicad-users] How do I add a Componet example a MCU

2010-01-06 Thread fictish2000
Hi all

Is their a good help to show you how to add a component

I like videos my self

with out this option in KitCad its extremely limited
and some how we have to create a better library system
the range of components is enormous

FreePCB I have found much easier to get going, but I use KiCad to print the
freepcb file out with. simply because I cannot create new components easily in
kitCad. And the wizard in freepcb is a good idea too.

Have you tried making invisible pins visiable with the show hidden pins

manually, then hiding the pins again ?

I've never tried this, so I can't say if it will work, but perhaps worth
a try.

"reasonably priced" ?? not really.

In this context, we need GPL.

There's a need for something like this licensed GPL. As a
minimum, it should support Kicad and gEDA in a neutral manner.
Being able to migrate from (and to) the commercial packages is
good too.

If the GPL one uses the same neutral format as a commercial
product, that's ok. A format isn't really neutral if it is only
commercial.

I have another idea for netlists, but you are talking symbols
here.

I am thinking like you that supporting an open format has a lot of potential.
While the developers may be off "re-inventing the wheel" we all owe them a lot
of gratitude for the work they have done, and to those like yourself who are
willing to share freely when they can. Do the developers monitor this board?

I use SUSE 11.1 and the Kicad tarball
kicad-2009-02-16-final-CENTOS_4.4.tgz

The main site is:
http://iut-tice.ujf-grenoble.fr/kicad/index.html

Downloads are here:
ftp://iut-tice.ujf-grenoble.fr/cao/

Note that these are binaries, and do not need compiling, just a quick
copy into /use/local/

Do note the need to do the chmod on the binary directory - see the
install.txt file.

As for the printing, best can suggest is to print it as a postscript
file then let something like Evince do the printing for you. That way you
can force the printing to fit the page.

Hi Andy, thanks for your comments. I have been using the User Size option but
this causes my printer driver to notice I am using a custom size, it would be
nice to have a straight forward Landscape/Portrait option so when you print the
printer detects it properly but no matter! As for the problems I am having with
the text I have realised now (after installing kiCad on my friends windows
machine) that the linux and windows versions have some differences. E.g. the
version I am using does not have the rotate option when you right click a field
like it does in the windows version...which explains why I could not find it. I
reckon my repositories are out of date. I will compile from source later and
make sure I have the latest version. Thanks for your help.

Yeah,

This was I had in mind, but I wanted to know if there could have a way
without duplicating the concerned parts in lib.

I think this is a limitation to get the power pin invisibles. This doesn’t
allow you to wire them on different voltages like I need there for switched
or permanent 5V…

Thanks

Hi!
copy this components your library, and modify power pins visible.
modify the original lib not recommended.
create +5Vsw power component, and connect power pin.
if modify power lib, save it... (if reinstall kicad, restore it)

Do you mean e.g.

That would be strange. When exporting to pdf I always have the text replaced by
vectors. Even if I export to PNG in Inkscape I can't reproduce that problem
