To me it sounds like an issue with cron jobs. As the previous poster said: What
is your, distro, install method, and koha version? The recommend way the
previous poster was talking about is from debian packages.

That's right: I should have said more about my environment :/
We're running Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS. I don't have good notes on the original
koha installation. There were a couple false starts, and so I'm not sure if
this is packages or other.
