Seven hours to save child from danger

Capturing the intruder.

The child in safety.

Police from Me Linh district, Vinh Phuc province, in co-ordination with
special forces saved a 12 year child from the danger after seven hours.

Intruder in the house

Mrs Loan, Mr Huan¹s wife, said in panic that she found a intruder had broken
into her house at 4 am, April 15. At that time, all the doors, including the
front and back doors on the first floor and another upstairs, were still
locked. There was no sign of a break in. The thief knew that he had no way
to escape. He rushed into12 years old boy Thang's room on the second floor
while the child was sleeping. He wrapped a child in a blanket, holding a
knife in his hand, and said to Mr Huan and his wife: "Give me VND 10 million
or I¹ll kill him." The couple were very frightened and climbed into their
neighbour¹s house to call the police.

Also according to Mrs Loan, it was possible that the intruder broke into her
house at dusk on April 14, when the house owners were negligent, and waited
for the opportunity to start his burglary.

Intruder Dinh Van Huan.

At about half past four, the police surrounded the house and saw that the
intruder took Thang to the bathroom and bolted the door. Thang cried loudly.
The intruder forced Thang to tell the police to withdraw and that only Mr
Huan may come near to carry out his demands; he asked for money four times
(first time: VND 150,000; second time: VND 200,000; third time: 450,000 and
fourth time: VND 1 million); he asked Mr Huan to give him a shirt, a helmet,
a taxi (for escape) and two litres of petrol.

According to Mr Nguyen Van Vinh, head of the Me Linh district¹s police, all
the intruder's demands were met except that of two litres of petrol.

At about 11am, the intruder still kept Thang. Deputy director of the
provincial police Phung Tien Bo and district¹s chairman Nguyen Van Chuc
asked the Ministry of Public Security to take harsher measures to save
Thang.

At 11:20, the order was made for the special force and the district's police
to attack

After two shots of tear gas into the bathroom, the special force broke into
the bathroom and caught the burglar.

After only over one minute of action, little Thang was saved. The police
took the burglar away, winning the admiration of hundreds of people.

Having been saved, Thang was taken to the Me Linh district's health centre.
Thang regained consciousness after fifteen minutes.

Mr Vinh, head of the district police station, said the intruder is Dinh Van
Huan, born in 1982 in Phuc Thang, Me Linh. Huan has criminal records
involving stealing properties of people.

When Thang had been saved, hundreds of people sighed of relief and gave
great applause to policemen. They waved good-bye to the policemen as to
their most beloved relatives.
