BOGOTA, January 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Colombian police units in Bogota
were put on maximum alert to cope with an eventual mounting
campaign of guerrilla organizations, after a terrorist attack
presumably by the FARC, in which four police officers and a little
girl were killed on Friday.

Hector Dario Castro, Bogota's police commander, confirmed that
all the units have been on the alert following the bomb attack,
which occurred at the Fatima district of the capital that also
left nine police agents injured.

A bomb on a bicycle blew off in front of a small restaurant
known as Josefa, in which a group of police officers were having
their lunch. The Josefa restaurant is across the street from the
Fatima Police Station in the southwestern part of the capital.

Three police officers were killed on the spot.
Just hours later, bomb-squad units deactivated an explosive
device placed near a police post at the San Fernando district in
the northwestern part of the capital.

According to preliminary police reports, the bomb contained
four kilograms of dynamite and was fixed to a bicycle.
Bogota mayor Antanas Mockus called on the seven million
citizens in the capital to turn light off for three minutes this
afternoon to condemn the alleged guerrilla actions.

Defense Minister Gustavo Bell said this sort of actions shows "
a lack of political arguments" by the Revolutionary Armed Forces
of Colombia (FARC), with which the government of President Andres
Pastrana initiated a on-and-off peace process in January 1999.
The 16,500-strong guerrilla group has not claimed
responsibility over this blast so far.

In recent weeks, the FARC rebels have started a new wave of
attacks on public works, including electricity towers, throughout
Colombia, especially in the central-south part of the country and
on the outskirts of Bogota.
