PNA Says Confrontation Could End Within 24 Hours

GAZA, January 25 (Xinhuanet) -- The Palestinian National Authority
(PNA) cabinet said Friday in a statement that it is possible to
have a ceasefire and an end to the ongoing confrontations with
      Israel.
"If the U.S., Russia, Europe and the United Nations have a
serious attitude to ending the crisis, a ceasefire would be
possible for ending the current confrontations within 24 hours,"
      said the statement.
Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat chaired a meeting at his
Ramallah headquarters that had been under the Israeli army
blockade since December 3 last year, where Israeli tanks are just
      a few feet away from.
"Tanks must end their blockade on President Arafat, pull out
from towns and villages, the trilateral talks must be resumed and
be headed by U.S. peace envoy Anthony Zinni," said the statement.
The Palestinian leadership said that the Palestinian commitment
"is not enough to implement the ceasefire, end violence and
confrontations. There must be a more deep, serious and
      comprehensive Arab and international role."
Israel Radio reported that Israeli F-16 warplanes carried out
air strikes on Friday night on Palestinian security installations
in the West Bank city of Tul Karm and the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army said in a statement that the strikes were in
response to a Palestinian suicide bomb attack in Tel Aviv earlier
in the day that wounded 26 people, three of them seriously.
The PNA cabinet said that it condemns all attacks and violence
that would hurt innocent civilians no matter whether they are
Israelis or Palestinians, adding that "it is important to avoid
      those civilians any confrontations."
The PNA called upon militants to stop all attacks against
Israel, adding that the attack on Israel "would never serve the
national interests of the Palestinian people."
"We urge Europe and the United States to pressurize Israel to
end its military and security measures and actions against the
Palestinians in order to be able to implement the ceasefire," said
      the statement. Enditem
