KR> Rudder turnbuckles locations

2009-08-01 Thread Dan Heath
If you scroll down a couple of thumbs and click on some of the ones that show under the instrument panel, you can see where my turnbuckles are. Yes, difficult to get to if your deck does not come off. There is also one that ties the two outer rudder bars together, to keep them under tension.

I have been around the KR for over 25 years, and have never heard of an accident where wing failure was the cause or contributed to the accident. There has always been speculation about the wing attach fittings being the weak point, but I think that was also proved to be a myth, at last year's

2009-07-11 Thread Dan Heath
I really like the exhaust augmentors. It seems like that will effectively extend the length of the exhaust. I have always heard that an engine running at low RPM should have a short intake and a long exhaust, and we always have just the opposite. See N64KR at http://KRBuilder.org - Then click

KR> Fuel Tanks

2009-07-10 Thread Dan Heath
I have a stock KR2 with a 2180 VW. It has a 12.5 gallon header tank and I flew it to the KR Gathering and back last year. I can fly more than 2 hours on that tank with reserve, so it is enough. However, I could have easily made the Gathering with just one stop, if I had about 20 gallons, and I

Mike, Do you have Auto Plugs on the mag also, using the converters? I had a set of REL-36B Champion Aircraft Plugs, on my first KR, and they are still good. Thanks for the story, this is good information. Maybe a change of plugs at annual would be a good idea if you are using auto plugs. See

KR> Subaru more ruel efficient than Corvair?

2009-07-09 Thread Dan Heath
Isn't the Subaru, water cooled? Water cooled engines will run much more economically than will air cooled. Air cooled engines use air, oil, and fuel to keep them cool. So I have heard. See N64KR at http://KRBuilder.org - Then click on the pics  See you at the 2009 - KR Gathering in Mt. Vernon,

Barry, You make "wheel alignment" seem so casual. I am doing that now on my KR as I found one side to be very toe out. I don't find it a simple thing to do. Also, why do you need to do this? You had your plane flying some time ago, did you not? What did you think of the Jab as an airplane?

I am going to remove my header tank, at some point before the new engine goes on, assuming that will happen. For a fuel supply, I am going to build tanks, like Mark Jones', in my outboard wings. It should be a relatively easy job to install the tanks in the wings, since they can be removed,
