I did the same thing Tony did. Both on my Sonerai II and my KR 2.
In both cases I felt the same as he did.

Hi all.
In response to Stef's comment about extending the nose gear (on a tri-cycle)
to just below take off attitude. I have done just that, but I am still a
fair distance from starting tests on the KR2S. Have lots of glassing,
sanding and painting to do, but I would also love to hear comments o
take off (nose up to keep
it our of the grass), and it seems to take forever for the plane to get up
speed.
Thanks,

As a guide FAA states
Unless smaller clearances are substantiated, propeller clearances with the
airplane at maximum weight, with the most adverse center of gravity, and with
the propeller in the most adverse pitch position, may not be less than the
following:
(a) Ground clearance. There must be

The prop clearance on my plans-built, KR-2 with Diehl tri-gear and Great
Plains 2180 VW and 52x52 prop is 9-1/2 inches. Tony Bengalese recommends
9-inches in his book Firewall Forward. I made a wheel-barrow landing on my
first flight; I bent the nose strut and the swivel bolt plus trashed the

Phil,
I'd go with the 8" clearance for now and just be careful.
See if things work out and then MAYBE think about
larger diameter tires, different lower gear fittings, etc.
You're more apt to get into trouble with a taildragger
if you land flat and hit hard. With a nose dragger you

I can not add a larger wheel to the nose strut, due to the size of the

At the moment I have about 8 inch prop clearance. Because of the gear drive
and the high torque this engine produces, it is a waste of time fitting a
smaller dia prop.

Hi Barry
Think about your prop clearance with tail up. 60" may be a bit too large but
it will depend on the length of the Jab's gear legs.
