I have a complete retract gear system for a KR 1 or 2 to include wheels and
cable brakes. All mounted 30 years ago. If you're interested contact me @
dprich01 at comcast.net for pics and details. Also have an A-65 with motor
mount for KR2

Thanks to all those who sent me pics of the early retract systems . It
really put my crappy dialup connection to the test!
Looking at those planes makes one realise just how much the KR has evolved
over the years.
Thanks again guys.

Guys,
The one project I have here has a retract handle that folds up. You
have leverage to retract the gear, but there is very little leverage
to extend the gear. For those of you who have flown the retract
version, how much torque does it take to snap the gear
downBobby
Very little, if the handle moves freely while on the ground, that is the
same as you will need in the air.

Bobby,
That might be a big mistake. Save your KR and put a fixed gear on it. I
had to crash my first one 3 times before I finally got wise and put on a
fixed. Never crashed it again. The crashes were caused by gear collapse.

Hi Bobby.
Another factor to consider when deciding to modify or not is that the KR
with retracts is not a soft or rough field aircraft for several reasons.
The aircraft is too close to the ground, and the retracts were too springy.
My gear uplock per plans shook so hard and violently during my
I am going to say what most KR builders already know. The only real solution
to problems, note I said problems, with the retract gear, is to replace it
with a fixed gear. I went through 3 failures of the retract before putting
on a fixed, on my first KR. If you are not having problems, then, don't

hi does anyone know what the angle is on those 3 blocks that join the gear to
the main spar
and what do people think about adding a small plate at the end of the gear to
shift the wheels forward and thus place moreweight on that tail the small plate
would also give it more ground clearance .i
