2008-11-25 Thread Mark
Just a hint: when you see these links, look closely. In many cases, the link
is spread over two lines (due to limitations of the line character
allotment), so sometimes the "link" doesn't work. In this case, the 'ew' at
the end of the link is missing when you 'click' on it. If you add the 'ew'
to the link in your address bar, it works fine.

Found this on the NASA Newsletter website. I am certain if this technology
can be deployed at reasonable prices, nitride treatment will be relegated to
horse and buggy status.

KR> It depends

2008-11-25 Thread Ed Janssen
Dan,

Not necessarily I would think. FPL-16A has been around a long time and used
quite a bit back in the early KR years by a lot of builders (Steve Bennett
was one of them). Guess it depends on what characteristics you're after.
For the "newbies" - T-88 is awfully easy to work with, versatile (can be
drilled and tapped, can fill fairly large gaps, can be thinned for sealing
wood, is considered "structural" when mixed with cotton flox, etc.), and has
almost become the "standard" with homebuilders, especially for wood to wood
bonding.

So, is the bottom line, FPL 16A is the best adhesive for wood to wood?

KR> Items for sale

2008-11-25 Thread Joe E. Wallace
I had a deep interest in the original KR-1 and had the privilege to know
Ken Rand and his family. Work and other interests diverted my focus and
now in retirement, I have found some articles that may be of interest to
some who are still in the KR family. I have the original plans and
instruction manual for serial #0694, a set (6) of KR gold inscribed
drinking glasses and a size small blue KR t-shirt. I am accepting
offers and will send to the highest bidder to my e-mail address or phone
1-641-340-5000 by Dec. 15, 2008.

Thank you,

2008-11-25 Thread Mark Jones
Yes, I have talked with them and they say they did not install the cam gear
cocked and that it must have cocked when it failed. Today, I am going to see
Mark Petunis with the rest of my engine for an inspection. If he does not
find anything wrong then all it could have been was the cocked gear.

That was an article written in the FOREST PRODUCTS JOURNAL and compared
only three epoxies , apparently developed by them. I have a book on
"wood" from EAA that compares epoxies and FPL 16A was rated very
high, if not the best, of adhesives tested but that test was done many
years ago now. FPL 16A is what I used on my KR and have seen no
problems to date. Our KR's will hopefully not see the exposure that
these glue joints are tested to so who is to say that one adhesive is
better than the other. Most that we use seem to be at least antiquate.
