KR> Cockpit vacuum gauge
Jeff said, > "I don't think the manifold pressure gauge [vacuum gauge] is going to tell you much other than your throttle setting for a given altitude." It won't even do that if you fly wide open throttle - which if above 8K I assume everyone does. Steve Bennett had a chart that showed what information could be derived from a vaccuum gauge. I just went looking for it but couldn't find it. It's out there on the internet - behavior of the needle indicating various possible engine problems. Steve once recommended I put one in so I did . . . but I've never found the gauge useful at all. The way I fly, unless I've just taken off and am climbing, it always reads zero. KR> Harness (2) for Slick 4316 magneto
There's a heck of a deal available on eBay just now. Two harness sets for the 4316 magneto, brand new, for $174. These are the original gray woven insulated outer sleeve made by Slick/Champion/Unison. Fits 5/8's plugs. I made an offer of $150 and free shipping . . . was hoping to steal them . . . but was declined. I've been very close to buying them anyway. At $174 they are a steal already. But they would end up sitting on a shelf in the hangar along with all the other treasures I didn't need, don't need, and will never need, but which I couldn't resist buying because they were such good deals. I've got a boxed, fresh Unison harness sitting on my desk in the hangar. I can't remember just now but I paid well over $200 for it a few months ago. So I will never need another harness for my 4316 this lifetime. I'll bet there's a bunch of KR's out there with Slick magnetos that could use some new harness wires. Slick/Champion/Unison original wires are pricey - way more than $174 just for one set. This deal includes TWO. Hard to resist it but I'm passing it on. eBay item number: 122320515070 Part#: M2266 It's a But It Now listing with no ending date so it could disappear at any moment. If anyone needs some wires this is one to jump on. >From the eBay page: Slick 4 Cylinder Magneto Harness, NEW, Set of 2 This is new inventory when FBO closed. This is a set of 2 caps with 4 ignition leads. Always refer to your parts manual for your applicability. Spark plug connectors are 5/8". KR> 4 into 1 exhaust . . .

KR> Fuel Header Tank
> "The partial KR2 (original design) I have bought is fitted with an aluminum fuel tank in front of the instrument panel. From the information I have available this is not a good idea (shift of CoG, fire danger etc.)" On the contrary, if you've got an aluminum tank it means it's removable. You can't imagine what an advantage that is unless you've got a KR with a fixed fiberglass tank (as per plans). Having the latter is a nightmare if you need to bleed your brakes or get behind the panel - and who is it that doesn't need to do both of these things? My aluminum header tank is 17.2 gallons and I've flown it to almost zero fuel many times with no problem. Usually on trips where I'm landing with almost zero fuel, I've got my baggage area (quite large) behind the seat full of all kinds of stuff which further contributes to an aft CG situation. My KR (Ken Cottle's KR-1½) is 15 feet 8½ inches so it's a little longer than a stock KR . . . one of which I owned back in the 80's. The extra length I've got gives me significantly more room for my baggage compartment and also makes it a nicer handling aircraft. Part of the extended fuselage length is ahead of the CG, so it balances out really nicely. Once you get familiar with flying with an aft CG it's like anything else, no big deal.
