I am going to presume that we are communicating with someone in Brazil,
Portugal or Spain. You refer to Santos Dumont, a Brazillian I believe,
however, I thought he built his planes in France.
The wood called poplar has different qualities in different climates.
Generally, the colder the climate, the slower the growth, hence the
increased number of growth rings with the resulting increase in weight
(specific gravity), and increase in shear, bending and tensile strenght. Our
poplars here in North America are often referred to as Aspen, Yellow poplar
and Cottonwoodwith the Aspen most favorable.
The KR aircrafts woodwork design (spars and boxed fuselage) has been
around since before World War 1. It will lend readily to various woods.
However, Poplar does deteriorate (rot) faster than Spruce and Pine, so
surface finishes are important.

Hello people
How are you
Well I am building a KR2S and I own made mine kit. I went to choose a ideal
wood to cut and made all parts of mine fuselage.
Here dont have a sprouce, we have a goeldia cordiana popular "FREIJÓ" is very
flexible, long fiber and ligth wood. Santos Dumont in your 14 BIS and DEMOSEILE
use this wood.
Here have only person how made a plywood aproved to build aeroplane.
The fire wall is very easy to made, If you have a original plans.
To you is very simple and easy to build aeroplane homemade because you have a
sprouce aircraft an other suppliers. Perhaps a time to read this email you own
cut a firewall and more 40 min to sand and adjust,...
Atualy I am to hope for hardware aluminium to fixed in fw spar, that made here
too.
I will made a leggear with a various layouts of 4 kinds of fiberglass with
epoxi .

Slow but sure, note the repair job on that elevator, got the braces almost
done by the machine shop for the landing gear so soon this baby will be on
it's own wheels!!

Was reading though the plans, and it seems it was supposed to have cooking
foil thin firewall, .005, gezz that is thin!! No wonder it peeled off with
my fingers. I'm going with stainless steel at .035 yea a little more weight,
but this plane is being configured as a single seat plane and with a Type 4
2400cc engine. So more then enough to handle the extra weight of a decent
firewall LOL.

Here are some of my latest pictures:
 http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2094554=1106895076=f07ac91656

I need to start the other side and get that sanded down and the top deck
fixed on that side.

Once the landing gear is on and I've done what I want on the top, I'm going
to put the engine mount on and put some moving wheels bolted to the engine
mount and put the whole plane on it's nose. that way I can sand and fix
the bottom. Easier to glass vertical then upside down LOL.
