Regardless of where you fly you'll want flaps or speed brake for drag in
the landing mode.  With sufficient drag 2000 feet should be quite doable
for landing.  I suspect your takeoff roll will be equal to or exceed
your landing requirement, depending on aircraft weight, obstacles,
condition of turf (wet, dry, long, etc.).  On my last flight I asked the
tower what my stop and turn around distance was and they replied 1750
feet.  That was on hard surface with a 6 mph mostly head wind and that
was without extra effort and only moderate braking at the very end.  My
over the numbers speed is 80 mph and I wheel land.  I'm heavy, 760
pounds empty, and have a 20' 8" RAF48 wing.  Longer wings, less weight,
and slower landing speed should cut 300 feet or more off that distance.
I'd consider John's and Joe Weber's numbers closer to what you could expect.

Hi Ken.
I fly a stock KR2 with Diehl wings, trigear, hydraulic Matco brakes and a
RevMaster 2100D off our 2000x80 grass strip (OR81). I use about 800 feet to
get off and about 1200 to land and roll out. We are open on one end and a
road and 2000' beyond we have trees.
I'm not saying everyone would be comfortable with that runway. I have been
flying from this field since 1992, first in a Beech Musketeer and now also
in a Cessna Cardinal.
I know Joe Weber flys off a shorter strip than that. He has oversize wheels
and I'm sure that helps with braking power; I think stopping power is
somewhat important.
With your 1835, higher base elevation and no configurable drag, 2000' would
probably be marginal. You didn't mention tail or nose wheel; that matters.
As does pilot weight. Just my 2 cents...

On a grass runway, what length of runway is comfortable for you to use? VW
1835cc 650 # airplane (without pilot and passenger). 1,200' altitude. No
flaps or belly board (belly board can be added). SW to NE runway (N & S
winds prevailing).

It makes me a little antsy to land on Moontown's 2100' runway, but I do
it on occasion, especially touch and goes, and I used most of it. But
it has clear approacheslarge grass field on one end, and a crossing
road on a five foot high berm on the otherjust watch for cars! If
the runway you are looking at is shorter and has has trees on one end,
it becomes a one-way airport, which is somewhat hazardous with regards
to winds.

Ken you really need to factor in at least a pilot (or very clever
passenger) unless you don't want the plane back. ;)

sorry
