  The package names of QML modules should be of the format qml-

  For Ubuntu, transitional packages should be put in place for smooth 
distribution upgrades, since we're shipping with the old names in previous 
Ubuntus. An example of that is at

 - in other words:
  - Make the old package a transitional oldlibs package that depends on the new 
package
  - Add Breaks/Replaces to the new package for the old non-transitional

  - Keep Multi-Arch: same and Architecture: any for the transitional package
  - Write "QML module" instead of "QML plugin"
  - Rename also the *.install files

  qtdeclarative5-style package naming became "qttest" (qml-module-qttest)
  in the new naming since the path is actually under

  /usr/lib/*/qt5/qml/QtQuick/XmlListModel, as an example if you have more
  than one subdir. /usr/lib/*/qt5/qml/Ubuntu/Connectivity/ would be qml-

[Bug 1655546] [NEW] sqlite backend missing when recompiled with Qt 5.7.1

For some reason when akonadi was compiled against Qt 5.7.1, the sqlite
backend did not get compiled. This lead to dh_install error and required
the following workaround:

The missing backend however should probably be restored.

Qt 5.7.1 is still not released but hopefully everything would be ready
on upstream side by beginning of January. It seems 5.7.1 will still have

Ok I went through it and I think it was really worth merging to get it
more maintainable and syncable from Debian.

Attached is a rough "diff" of what changed. I first generated it by
trying to standardize the notations (wrap-and-sort) and then diffing
between Debian and Ubuntu (Michael's updated 0.12.4 PPA version). After
applying changes and keeping some Ubuntu changes, I modified the diff by
hand to remove parts that no longer apply. So it's not a real diff, but
what tries to explain what did now change in Ubuntu. The big changelog
diff is not in there, they'd be welcome to be hand merged to preserve
the Ubuntu history.

If you see anything in this diff that's being removed that should not be
removed from Ubuntu, or added that should not be added, then feel free
to readd the modifications.

I've prepared an update, both bzr and PPA, but I'm currently unable to
test myself (for some reason, in my qemu at least I can't go "Forward"
from the second page of installer).

If you're able to test it, can you test it from ppa:timo-jyrinki/grilo
(don't mind the PPA name). That is, get a Kubuntu live image, add the
PPA, upgrade (check that you get ubiquity packages with version 2.21.55)
and then launch the installer and go far enough you get the slideshow -
in your own language.

@Arthur: I mean I don't believe there's currently anything missing from
the Qt packages regarding debugging symbols.

Looking at the trace, you'd want both qtbase5-dbg and
qtdeclarative5-dbg. Those would cover the three Qt libraries mentioned,
and not installing those packages would be more bug in the crash
assistant.

For plasmashell, probably http://ddebs.ubuntu.com/pool/universe/p
/plasma-workspace/plasma-workspace-dbgsym_5.4.2-0ubuntu2_amd64.ddeb or
something would be needed.

project.org/#/c/109166/), and the problem would hopefully be otherwise
too in Qt 5.

Qt 5.5 targets to the next release cycle, hopefully in November.

Unfortunately there's no Qt 5.4.2 PPA for 15.04, and no backportable
commits have been found that would actually fix the problem.

However, as of an hour ago 15.10 now has Qt 5.4.2, so marking this bug
as fixed even though the bug number was not included in the bug report.
Testing whether Qt 5.4.2 actually fixed the problem in wily would be
welcome.

https://codereview.qt-project.org/#/c/00/) has a claim from Stefan
that he doesn't see a particular crash anymore with Fedora's patched Qt.
The only relevant patch in that Fedora qtdeclarative seems to be this
same patch, so can maybe someone try to reproduce the crasher described
in that bug and then confirm it'd be fixed by the PPA?

That we way we could get at least one crasher fix in for starters.

I think it starts to sound like it would be useful to land this fix in
wily to get also more exposure to the fix, but maybe not worth starting
an SRU at this point. The impact seems to be either a) low or b) a bit
unpredictable on the actual problem users are seeing. If it turns out we
can get also other fixes landed to wily and they together would have a
bigger improvement, the SRU could be considered later?

sudodus: can you point out a regression/fault in the current
trusty/proposed PPA release, other than it doesn't fix all the existing
issue?

The same fix landed in Ubuntu 14.10 already, so is there a reason to not
provide the fix to 14.04 LTS users?

Since it'll take weeks before any next upload gets to 14.04 users, and
the 0.2 release is already in -proposed, I was suggesting to mark the
0.2 as verified-done so that users can get that one fix while the
remaining fixes are being handled in the new patch.

packages, but the package naming is something that follows Debian's
conventions so those won't be changed.

For me it'd look like that nowadays there's full QBS support included in
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and 14.10... at least regarding Qt Creator itself.

The QBS itself still lives as a qt-labs project at
https://qt.gitorious.org/qt-labs/qbs/ and has not been packaged to
Debian or Ubuntu. The packaging, if done, should be done via Debian's
pkg-kde project from where it could be easily synced to Ubuntu.

Dmitry: The relevant blockers are autopilot test failures and multimedia
on Ubuntu Touch. Some manual autopilot testing with phablet-test-run and
Nexus 4 can be seen at http://is.gd/JA1jg1. The latest news on
multimedia was that they know what needs to be done, but I don't have
the latest update from end of last week.

Additionally there is a handful of new build or unit test failures with
Qt 5.2.1 visible in the PPA, which look minor but need small fixes.

Fixed blockers include Qt 5.2.1 found to fix the can't unblank after
blanking bug and probably others that were lurking with 5.2.0. Many
bugs like crash on start of Dialer + Address book apps have been fixed.
Last week Debian also got up to speed with 5.2.1 so now syncing should
be possible to do properly.

People needed for the remaining fixes should be available this week, but
I will need some confirmations on above issues (when out of my own
hands) before making an updated prediction on the readiness. End of this
week should still be possible if the Qt 5.2.1 is validated as good
enough to fix remaining Touch problems later, although next week seems
more likely.

I know this it not a workable solution for U. This is the first ever
major upgrade of Qt 5, because the Qt 5.1.1 already didn't happen
despite plans. 5.2 on the other hand is too important to not have. The
Qt 5.3 timeframe is such that we shouldn't delay moving to that in U,
but just bite the bullet as soon as possible (I expect KDE Frameworks 5
will also move to 5.3). 5.3 should also be about stabilization and
performance according to upstream, which sounds good; the QML engine
rewrite in 5.2 was a quite ambitious project.

You're correct that development release is now kept releasable each day,
and each daily Ubuntu Touch image should be flawless
(http://ci.ubuntu.com/smokeng/trusty/touch/). The new CI Train
integration does not allow code merges to trunks unless they don't
regress those results.

The effects of the development method may not have been discussed enough
after the CI Airline vUDS discussion in November, from which the
current method has evolved. Everything is now worked in silos until they
are perfect, and there are tools to allow that. With Qt it's more manual
ensuring but still similar to smaller components. Parallel work until
all but polishing problems are fixed.

The current Qt 5.2.x blockers include:
- QA team has started testing 5.2.0, but only this week we've gotten tools to 
create system images using the PPA to be able to get more automated testing
- No multimedia related apps work yet because of lacking qtmultimedia-touch 
(Multimedia team is working on this)
- Some critical bugs making Touch images unusable like the inability to turn 
the screen back on once it has blanked
- The V4 engine is seen a bit risky considering the already identified bugs, so 
the complete 5.2.1 release seems better all around
- 5.2.1 has not been tested yet by QA team. The packaging syncs I've done with 
5.2.1 may cause some rebuild problems since the mkspecs directory changed.
- Debian has part of the 5.2.1 in experimental now, with more coming. I'd like 
to see all of 5.2.1 syncable from Debian for those modules that can be synced 
(most of them).

Lastly, the process of uploading and building the 20 Qt modules and
rebuilding 80 source packages, taking into account the dependencies and
architectures, may take several days in case there are any last minute
surprises that weren't noticed even with careful preparation.

All in all, 2.5 weeks from now sounds like something when pieces could
fall together. I'm putting 5.2.1 into use right now, which should be the
start of the final push.

As mentioned in my comment above, it turned out that the bug needs both
Qt 5.1 and QtCreator 2.8. Qt 5.1 was aimed to have in Ubuntu already but
because of some regressions on Unity8 on device it was postponed a bit.

If wanted, Qt 5.1 is usable on desktop by adding ppa:canonical-
qt5-edgers/qt5-beta-proper and dist-upgrading. It will also come to the
official PPA:s and Ubuntu 14.04 repositories in a month or two.

This is now fixed in lp:qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu, but not yet uploaded to
saucy.

So when using the SDK Release PPA, which equals to what we will have
after the next upload, 'Ubuntu SDK' if found via both Software Center
manually and on the Applications lens in Dash. When installed via Dash,
qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu gets installed but because it now Recommends:
ubuntu-sdk, also the full SDK is installed.

Can you check the output of following commands:
dpkg -l ubuntu-sdk
dpkg -l libqt5scripttools5

In the screenshot the plugin complains about missing
libQt5ScriptTools.so.5. I'm not getting that on my saucy installation,
and I'm also using the saucy archives version of the SDK. If I try to
remove the libqt5scripttools5, it wants to remove 'ubuntu-sdk' package
as well.

However, it seems this is at the same time bug in the Qt Creator
plugin's dependencies - even though officially we instruct everyone to
install 'ubuntu-sdk', we can't rely on it if qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu is
installed alone (it should work).

So as an user, please check you have 'ubuntu-sdk' package installed. On
our side, we will add a dependency to the plugin even though the users
are still recommended to install 'ubuntu-sdk' package as well.

I don't know the details of how SC works / gets the list of installable apps, 
but something in this equation probably matters:
- qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu is the package that ships ubuntu-sdk.desktop (name 
Ubuntu SDK, executes qtcreator)
- qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu, even if it would be installable, would not pull all 
of the SDK in
- 'ubuntu-sdk' - the package that should be installed when a person searches 
and installs for SDK, is just a meta-package itself, and does not ship any 
.desktop file

This comes from KDE upstream (http://quickgit.kde.org/?p=kde-
workspace.gita=blobh=fde85473019d37a50d3d233dc45ad96ee76359d8hb=07d3ac9d8c781755d19c71ccde6d182868a2bfb5f=startkde.cmake#l19)
which has forced PATH to have qt4 path as the first item, regardless of
qtchooser, qt5-default and so on. It's obviously a workaround (for KDE's
Qt4 qdbus usage) that should hopefully go away. You can use a different
PATH when in an own terminal window so that qtchooser can do its job.

When it comes to qtbase-opensource-src at least, I don't think there's
anything left to fix at this time regarding the problem, with the latest
5.0.2 work in 13.10 synced with Debian. The configuration placement
changes in there together with newer qtchooser should help upstream to
revert the PATH forcing, although a resync with Debian's Qt4 would also
be needed still to have automatic fallback to Qt4.
