Configuration and maintenance is a piece of cake.
Because of this I strongly suggest that we don't use a VPS.
I have an idea:
1. Prepare rsync scripts and SSH keys
2. Put the script /

Isn't that the main selling point of a vps at this point? The ability
to grow?
If in a year we decide we want something completely different from a
Web site, and the vps isn't overloaded, it can just run on there.
I am in favor of a vps, especially
Hello all
I am afraid my company decided that they wouldn't be able to provide hosting,
admin etc...
The reason for this is because they are in the process of migrating between
providers.
However, as I mentioned in an earlier response to the post of a potential

When this semester ends, I'm more than happy to help. I have some
experience in LAMP and LEMP stacks... And if no one would be able to
personally ssh into the server, digital ocean has quite good tutorials for
beginners on the matter, too (they can be used by sysadmins with http-only

if I know anything really about sysadmin I would help out.

failure.

I have some experience with being a system administrator. Been a sys

VPS is what you do if you want to build a complex website or a server
that sports additional features other than the website. A place to run

Yes.
VPS is not required for a LAMP application or website.
My friend runs a webhosting business at http://milkhost.com
reseller of hostgator.
It has cpanel and ftp to upload files.
I can sponsor the web space and domain name.
Can help on administration too.
Reply here for any help.

I'll leave it at that.

IMHO the vps is too much. We don't need the hassle. We need web hosting
with full access to our files.

The problem is that it is another machine to administer in your mind.
I have a website host myself, it is easy, all I need to do is take
care of my own files, nothing more.
With a VPS you run the entire system yourself. You need to think about
what software to use, etc. Of course it can be
That would be different :).
Still the biggest difference is probably that on VPS you would have
access to multiple user accounts and more people who can access it
using their own accounts.
And you could have more of a shell server.
Then you could turn it into a shell host for Kubuntu
