By large, do you mean in 'long' or 'round' (or both) - if long, you will need a trough, be able to wedge the cylinder in it, but still be able to rotate it as you work. Diane, I too have been doing research for the 1830s. I am a docent at Historic Ferry Plantation House, built in 1830. My best suggestion is to look at Godey's Lady's Book. That is the source I have been using. The magazine was started in 1830. If it is in Godey's it was done! There ar
