The authoritative work is Lace a history by Santina Levey,
textile curator at the VA museum in the UK. It is a very hefty
(large, heavy, thorough) and expensive book, but if you can get it
through interlibrary loan it would be worth it.

similar to that wonderful piece Christine posted to Barbara, I happened

I, too, can vouch for Judith Markham - a long time teacher of lacemaking.
I believe she was one of the founding members of the Australian Lace Guild -
or she was there near the beginning, anyway.
So her competition is Fair Dinkum that is for sure!
