May I mention Synthrapol to stop the bleeding? Available at Dharma Trading Co.
(CA) & some quilt shops. For silk, use cool to warm water. Warm to hot for
other fibers. Consult product info on Dharma's site. Sincerely, Susan Hottle,

I checked my copy of "Practical Skills" as suggested by you an Tamara.
You both referred to a Grand Venetian which is new to me. i was only
aware of the plain Venetian cord.
I will make a sample of both cords, along with an edging with DMC
Memory thread to see which will best suite my needs.

The rule of thumb I was taught as a child was that vinegar was for animal

Thanks, Tamara.I will have to pull out my copy of Bridget Cook's
book to look it up. I heard from another Arachne that she has used
the DMC Memory Thread and is very happy with the results, 5 years down
the road. I will have to weight both options and see which works
best.

worn it several times and have had no issues with the colors running! Unless
you're caught in a deluge, you shouldn't worry about the colors running, and if
you *are* caught in a deluge, take the scarf off!

Yes, you can use vinegar. Maybe a tablespoon, no more, into the basin of
water. Swirl to dissolve, then put the silk in, make sure it is evenly
dampened, let it sit for a few minutes before pressing out the vinegar
rinse, then rinse again in clear water. Salt sets dyes too, but I prefer to

I am a daily lurker on Arachne. It's not very often that I have time to
post. I always enjoy what I read, and have learned so much. A special
thanks to Geri for her input on conservation.which I always print out and
save. The recent thread on blocking a silk scarf prompted this question.

Good Morning,
I was wondering if anyone has used the DMC Memory thread in their projects.
I am getting ready to make some Easter baskets as gifts and thought
this thread would be a good option for the handles on the baskets so
that the would stay standing and not collapse into the basket when it
