[lace] Happy 21st Birthday

2016-04-12 Thread lacel...@frontier.com
Arachne had just celebrated it's first year when I joined in May 96.  My DH got me a computer, set it up, and told me to "type in something".  I typed "bobbin lace" and the rest is history. I have learned so much from all the discussions on the List, and even got to attend the one and only

When I first started making lace, my dear friend Tamara Duval gave me a bone commemorative bobbin which celebrated the first anniversary of Arachne. The date of the anniversary on the bobbin is 4/96. So, it would seem that the list is 20 years old!!! Clay Clay Blackwell Lynchburg, VA

Arachne started on 12 April 1995, I joined in July that year, so that makes 'us' 21. Strangely enough I'd totally forgotten the significance of the date, just had a feeling all day that 12th April was somebody's birthday. Happy birthday to us! Jane partridgemous...@live.co.uk > Subject: Re:

Thank you Janice--what a clever idea & one that I will surely try! For my pattern, it sounds like this would be easier using a very long pin because I am spanning 11 pin holes. Jeri--sorry to say, I think the term lazy loops has a life of its own in any number of books, DVDs & classes. Sort

[lace] Magic Threads - Let's stop using term Lazy Loops

2016-04-12 Thread Jeriames
There are many memos in our Arachne archives about Magic Threads. Lacemakers do not want anyone to think we do anything "lazy". Do you remember how confusing it was when you were first learning to make lace, and there were several words for each technique you were trying to learn?
