I was taught in typing class many years ago to put two spaces after periods and
other punctuation as well. I only learned of the new trend of one space in the
last few years when I began to attend groups for writers. It took some
retraining, but now I prefer the one space as it's one less tap of

space-space after full-stop to one space. Think of the finger strokes
saved! I had a situation as Adele mentioned, and that was a convincing
reason especially as putting two spaces after the full-stop changed the

and can just type our usual way and then replace removing the second space
in bulk format. i, too, learned on a manual typewriter way back when and

When did the single spacing come in? I shall continue to double space as was
taught, it looks better to me. How can you understand the meaning without
apostrophes etc. It just doesn't make sense to me.

There are interesting problems. Tess told me last week that I should single
space at ends of sentences. I have been touch typing 65 plus years. Double
spacing is automatic. Will try to remember, but it looks weird.

Also, I noticed a while ago that the quotation/apostrophe key seems to result
in
