Gentle Spiders,
I have been gifted with a thread holder (a thingie - for lack of a
technical term g - which will hold a spool of thread *horizontally*,
while you're winding your bobbins), made by her DH, by Marie Parry in

Hello,
For a very long time I have wanted to buy Designs in Point Ground Lace
from Australian Wildflowers by Elwyn Kenn, but haven't found it
anywhere. Could any of you please tell me where I can buy it?

Hi,
I just found a book on Shetland lace making on eBay
(http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemcategory=64290item=6926182504rd=1)
and I was wondering whether that's bobbins lace or something else. None of the
terms sound familiar... Does anyone know?

Thank you all for info on Shetland lace. I can't knit, so I won't get that

Hello Tamara
I thought to check with him first, but I don't have either the URL (if
they have a website) to see, or the e-address (to ask)... The Google
search (admittedly, inept, given my 'puter skills. Or lack thereof g)
came up with several hits, but always on someone else's webpage, with
Dear Weronika,
The only Shetland lace I know is knitted - with beautifully fine wool ... and I

Hi,
I'm doing a large Internet bobbin lace book search right now, thus all the
questions about books.
I found the Complete Book of English BL by Nottingham - does anyone know how
good it is, which lace styles it goes over, and how much it overlaps with her
other lace books (especially Technique
Weronida,
I have the book and while I haven't made anything from it yet, I think it is

Ah, it's *that* sort of tape lace! Thanks a lot for telling me - I forgot that
tape lace can refer to something other than bobbin tape laces g. Definitely
not getting this one then!

My son sent me a link to a New York Times front-page article today (a

checking out the periferals, so that I could refer him back to

Being naturally curious, I tried Tamara's link, but got a page wanting me to
register to view the New York Times wanting some information about me,
offering benefits and wanting me to let them share this information with
others. I'm not that curious.

Dear SP,
Thank you for the box of fun treats! I love the 'spooky' spider and the
cute Halloween cats. The tea will be tasty, the bowl is lovely. The
bookmark is sweet, and will go in my current book. The muffin mix will be
great, I'll make it to take to Ithaca when Jane and I go in a few
It certainly seems as if Mother Nature is doing her bit to remind us that we
don't control everything. Weather patterns everywhere have been most
unusual and extreme this year :( I certainly feel sorry for our spiders in
Florida, our hot and dry year pales beside what they are experiencing.
