Dear Lacemakers,
I've been out-of-touch for a while - and missing you all - since I've

mentions of lace-making. Recently I found an intriguing remark, I

It was good fun to join this meeting, but I found it complicated to read,
write and make bobbin lace at the same time!
And Margot, I suppose you were really busy making continuous updates of the
list of participants! Thank you very much for all your work!

The sound of bobbins on a pillow in a shop in Honiton many years before I
started to make lace is what got me hooked. My family were all small at the
time and me time was in short supply, but when they got a bit older I saw
an advert in our local paper for lacemaking classes and my mind instantly
In Belgium, especially in Flanders, lacemakers formerly used to sing while
they were making lace. Those songs intend to maintain a certain rythm and
some songs indicated the movements the lacemaker had to do. The sound of
the bobbins and also the pattern or the type of lace were certainly in

Yes, the sounds of the bobbins on the pillow are wonderful. The rhythm of
the movements and the motion of the hands set up a sort of ZONE in my mind.
That is why I get lost in the making of lace and then I realize it has been

Thanks to everyone for sending me their time zones. I now have enough
to show that a relay across the world is feasible. So sometime in Aug.
or Sept., let's try to organize a huge, rolling, virtual lacemaking
day. Meanwhile, less ambitious ones can be organized at any time.

Does it _ever_!!! I have a home-made roller pillow which is excellent
in almost every respect _except_ the sound; it's drum, drum, drum, as
the bobbins bounce off of it. Sounds like heavy rain on a tin roof
