[lace] Christmas card exchange 2017

2017-09-12 Thread Susan
Thank you Liz! I keep hoping that our three very capable volunteers will look
at the big picture, bury the hatchet & work as a team for the good of the
whole. Many hands make light work & there is plenty of work for all three to
organize an exchange of this size. Whatever happened to teamwork ladies!?! In
the meantime, all our online speculation is for naught unless & until our
volunteers correspond with each other off list. I just can't believe that we
have devolved into finger pointing, choosing sides & anticipating a malicious
lacemaker around every corner. As if! Taking a cue from the NYSE, I'm taking
a "quiet period" to await results. In lace friendship to ALL Arachneans...
Sincerely, Susan Hottle USA

[lace] Christmas card exchange 2017

2017-09-12 Thread Liz Roberts
REALLY?!

All this infighting regarding the exchange makes me feel like I'm listening to
a bunch of high schoolers arguing over who gets to be head cheerleader. There
is no cheer in it - Christmas or otherwise. In most groups, it's difficult to
get anyone to volunteer to do anything and now many here are arguing who will
organize an exchange that is supposed to be about sharing our gifts and skills.
Does it matter who organizes it that Arachne will splinter and fall apart if
one person does it versus another person?

Janet would have discovered Lin was starting to organize it when she came back
from vacation. It should then have been up to Janet to privately talk to Lin
about it - maybe even thanking her for getting things started. I suspect Lin
was thinking sending out the invitation this early would help slow lacers and
newbies or people with a lot of time constraints around the holidays to get an
early start and make their plans. If between Janet and Lin, it was decided
Janet would take over, then again, it should have been left up to them to
decide and go on from there. It seems to me all this taking sides is ruining
the whole intent of the exchange.

In my opinion, all this is very immature and petty and should stop immediately.
If Janet still wants to do it, she can converse with Lin off list and they can
work something out. Frankly, I'm exhausted from the whole thing. Avital is
right, this stuff doesn't belong on the list which is supposed to be about
making lace, not enemies.

[lace] Leaving the Arachne Group

2017-09-12 Thread Lin Hudren
Naturally, you are entitled to do your thing but i cannot help but be
concerned that you are making this decision in haste and/or response to the
result of your email. you have every right to your opinion.

i sincerely and deeply request that you do not depart the group as you will
be leaving a big hole and also weakening the group which is not your
style. you are cherished (greatly by me) by the entire membership and your
contributions have blessed each and every one of us at one time or another.

100 years from now no one will ever know this occurred but hopefully as we
continue to age we will be able to be left with memories to be fond of and
perhaps give us smiles when we have no teeth and hardly know who we are.
you are one of those who will be remembered for a long time within this
group.

please reconsider. it isn't right for you to punish yourself which is what
is happening because you are denying yourself something that has been a
major focus in your life for a long time. get something chocolate and
another comfort food and watch the sun set and change your mind, please.
life it too short to be unhappy and regretful. you will miss us too.

Hugs, Lin and the Mali

[lace] Thank You

2017-09-12 Thread janet theaker
Hi I am just back from holiday and would like to thank everyone for the
support shown to me and explain whilst I am not hosting the Christmas Card
Exchange this year, I have not declined to do the exchange , This year I have
not had the option, Lin jumped in with both feet and pulled the rug from under
me . Whilst I know it should not be taken for granted I do the exchange it
would have nice to receive a mail from Lin , But I had to read like everyone
else. Which is not nice.

Last Year was the best year ever 122 cards, This is my first post on the
matter after I have just arrived back from holiday .

I just wanted to put my side of the story forward.

Once again take care

Janet.

Since then I have tried to 'pay it forward' as often as possible, in as many
ways as I can - but the time has come for me to remove myself from the
Arachne group. I will continue to make and promote lace through other
avenues such as lace guilds, groups, facebook and youtube and I will keep an
eye out for you too.

[lace] Twelve years is a long time

2017-09-12 Thread Jenny Brandis
Arachne has been a part of my life since 2005 and in fact it was Arachne
that I reached out to when I wanted to teach myself to make bobbin lace. (my
first newbie email can be read here -

were absolutely stunning and the help, knowledge and friendships over the
years has been outstanding.

[lace] Exchange suggestion

2017-09-12 Thread Avital
Could I make a suggestion?

Perhaps the organizers of various exchanges could form a committee and
discuss who would be responsible for different exchanges.

This would solve a lot of problems, by ensuring that everyone knew
ahead of time who would be running an exchange, allowing members to
cover for each other if someone is sick or on vacation, ensuring that
the exchanges are scheduled at reasonable times.

The rest of us would benefit from some kind of centralized agreed-upon
schedule because we could plan our time better.

Regards,

Avital
