[lace] English Embroidery "'Twixt Art and Nature"
Hello everybody, A number of years ago, there was an exhibit at the Met of English Embroidery 1580 to 1700 " 'Twixt Art and Nature". The accompanying book is now out of print...and available as a free download PDF!! Go here: https://store.bgc.bard.edu/english-embroidery-in-the-metropolitan-museum-1580-1700-twixt-art-and-nature-edited-by-melinda-watt-and-andrew-morrall/ Put in your information as a regular order, it will say the total is $0 and give you a link for the book. There's lots of neat lace in lots of great pictures. Thanks to Tricia Nyugen of Thistle Threads for posting the link and info in her blog! [lace] Ecclesiastical lace?
Thank you for posting Elena—this chasuble is exquisite! Your catalogue entry is super. Lots of juicy details about the construction & provenance, plus bonus references to similar vestments at V & St. Gallen. You’ve helped the reader place The Met vestments in context. IMHO—The Met chasuble is all the more beautiful because it is not appliqued & competing with a luxurious ground fabric. So sorry I can’t help you with further research. [lace] Nancy’s Early Lace
Congratulations Nancy—you certainly hit the jackpot! Did you buy a lottery ticket too? ;-) You said you are making spangles for a reconstruction. Perhaps you already know that authentic spangles are available from Tricia Nguyen? They are on her website thistle-threads.myshopify.com. They are listed in the metal threads section. Pricey to say the least BUT they are made from gilt silver by the same blacksmith who made them for the Plimouth Jacket. Best wishes on your reconstruction project. I know I will be staying tuned to see what you post on Flickr next!
