RE: [lace] bobbin identification

2022-07-28 Thread J-D Hammett
Hi Fellow Arachnids,

These bobbins are not Bucks point bobbins. I think they were probably made by
a Dutchman living in the UK near Tonbridge or Tunbridge Wells and who used to
dabble in continental style lace bobbins. He never made two the same, although
they were quite beautifully executed. All the silver inlay was sourced from
silver scrap, such as broken silver propelling pencils, broken jewellery etc.

It is a long time since I have seen him and I am afraid I will have to look
through a lot of paperwork to come across his name which I haven’t got time
for at present. But I would have thought that he has passed away as he was old
even then (more than 25 years ago) and not a well man.

Hope that helps a little.

Happy lacemaking,
Joepie in warm and mainly sunny Sussex, UK.

But is it a bucks point model? Some are rose wood and inlay of silver. Anyone
any idea about the potential maker or region of origin?

Dear Jo,
Could you put some clear photos up on the Arachne site on Flickr, please?
Without seeing the bobbins it is impossible to identify them. Even from photos
it is not always easy.
Happy lacemaking!
