Make sure your clock is *CLOSE* to the correct time prior to running ntpd...it's pretty typical to run ntpdate to set the clock just before running ntpd to keep the clock accurate. Indeed, in the gentoo distro, you can do: # /etc/init.d/ntp-client start so that the clock is set very close to
