Re: [leaf-user] BuC 5 on Proliant DL380R02

2013-03-30 Thread Robert K Coffman Jr. -Info From Data Corp.
P.S. IMHO it'll be much better if LEAF will be booted from IDE DOM (this
server seems to have IDE CD-ROM - so it should have IDE connector on
mobo). 10+ years old HDDs IMHO may die too suddenly...

I have quite a few old PCs in the field and I've had no trouble with old
IDE drives - the stress on them is virtually zero, and they spin down
after boot.

That being said, I'm looking for a replacement for those systems - 3 to
5 NIC ports. What LEAF compatible options are there?

In any case, HDD is weakest part in hardware. And old HDDs can die too

Maybe you should look on some nettop/miniITX board with Atom, + managed
gigabit switch like DGS-1100-05?

Bob,

for appliances with 3 NICs we've made good experience with ALIX boards
from PC Engines (http://www.pcengines.ch/alix.htm).

 Hi.
No, this is incorrect. /var/lib/lrpkg/*.modules contains list of modules
that are included into some packages so they'll be excluded from
 moddb.lrp on backup.
You may just add module to /etc/modules and run autoprobing to get
module with all rependencies into /lib/modules. Or just to run autoprobe
if your array driver has corresponding modalias.
