What I want to know is how Torquay (who finished 7th in Div 4 on 68 pts) are
in the playoffs, whilst we (7th on 72) are not.

I've grown to like them, despite our appalling record in them.

But I'd prefer to see a system that favours the teams that finished higher

  during the season, like this:

Third placed team automatically qualifies for the Wembley final.

Sixth plays fifth, with fifth having home advantage. Single game, not two
  legs.

The winner plays fourth, with fourth having home advantage. Single game
  again .

The winner goes to Wembley to play the third-placed team.

So the higher you finish, the fewer the number of games you have to play.

You could actually extend the playoff qualification down the league
using
this format, as there would be fewer semi-final games through not having

  a two-leg format.

[LU] Leeds council buys seven acres at Elland Road

2011-05-19 Thread Paul Tweney

From Property Week:-

Leeds City Council has bought seven acres of land behind Elland Road
football stadium in Beeston, as part of plans to develop the area.

The deal will help the council develop more than 40 acres of land around the
Leeds United football ground. The council now owns all the land between the
M621, Elland Road and Lowfields Road, with the exception of Leeds United's
ground.

It said that investment in the site has the potential to regenerate the
surrounding communities of Beeston and Holbeck.

In 2007 the council developed a Masterplan for the area to guide future
development and encourage the area's regeneration.

Councillor Richard Lewis, executive member with responsibility for city
development, said: This area of land is a landmark site for Leeds and it is
great that after working for nearly 25 years to acquire it, we have
successfully completed the task.

The acquisition will give the council greater control to deliver the
comprehensive redevelopment of land around Elland Road football stadium and
it complements Leeds United's existing East Stand redevelopment proposals.

We will continue to keep the public informed about the progress of our
plans for Elland Road to achieve our ambition to make the site an important
contributor to the regeneration of the local community and the Leeds
economy.

what are Leeds United's existing East Stand redevelopment proposals.?

I read about West Stand redevelopment as part of the WC bid but I missed
East Stand. Is this where the Leeds Village is going to be?
