Re: [LU] New manager + Kaspar

Damian + Ted,

I think it would be ridiculous to sack Grayson but you've got to be concerned
with the results - we're conceding 4,5,6 goals most weeks now. That sort of
form
usually gets the manager the sack. My worry is the same as Simon Hart's in that
Grayson went with the same midfield that were so poor against Leicester ? How
can he do that ? When Bradley Johnson is your biggest attacking threat on the
night with his long range efforts you've got to worry. We again went through 45
mins (nearly 90 mins) without troubling their keeper - a save from Snodgrass is
all we managed in 90 mins

Also when he drags his top scorer off and puts a young rookie on theyn you just
think that here's a manager that is running out of ideas. Why was Somma (and
Becchio) not having good games ? THere was no service to them, there was nobody
creative. Grayson looks like a broken man but I expect him to get his act
together and put out a team that will have a good go in the next 2 away games.

My scores:

Kasper - 3. Was he fit ? He was awful.
Connelly - 5. Was the best of the bad bunch at the back.
Collins - 3. Actually defended better in the first half but still not up to it.
Bruce - 4. Should have cleared the ball for the first goal but still much
better
and I think he has potential.

McCormack - 3. What has happened to him  ?
Howson - 3. A few glimpses but playing on his own in central midfield.
Faye - 1. Just not with the pace, ok on the ball but that's not good enough.
Snodgrass - 3. Slow, fat and not up to it.
Johnson - 5. At least he had a go and was probably our best player on the
night.

Becchio - 5. Playing at the top of his game but still not nearly good enough.
When he got the ball and was in space , he ran with it, swivelled round and
fell
over. Same old , same old. Get rid quick.

Somma - 2. Worse I've seem him play but why ? 1) Shit partner 2) Shit midfield.

Subs:
Gradel - 6. Had a go.
Nunez - 6. Also had a go but is he centre forward ? Reminded me of Aaron
Lennon.

Total respect to Ted - we don't need a new manager and it's ridiculous to
suggest otherwise. SG tries, he makes mistakes and he visibily tries to
learn from them (compare him to, say, DOL or TV). I'm happy waiting for SG
to get better because he will and I believe that when the exciting times
come he will deliver.

And BTW, as far as I can work out we have a purchase policy based on zero
outlay (I know we've paid for one or two players but they were very much
the exceptions). I don't think it's fair at all to criticise SG for the
players he's brought in - before employing a Martin O'Neill give SG the
transfer budget that the big-name manager would demand..

To change the subject. I saw 3 of the Cardiff goals on breakfast television
this morning. I thought that Kaspar could have and should have stopped all
3. He dived over 2 of them and didn't move for the third. According to
someone's mail he knocked in the goal that I didn't see himself. He's just
back from a fairly lengthy injury, has he played in a reserve match? Maybe
he was put in too soon? (Yes I know that would be another SG mistake...)

Hi Richard,

You are right to point out the results and, by implication, that something
is not right. But in regards to the manager's performance there are some of
the reports that don't make sense.

Others have criticised Johnson starting and yet you say that he was
probably our best player on the night. Then you seem to criticise SG's
decision to replace Somma with Nunez - but go on to score Somma 2 and
Nunez 6.

So where are the problems? Is it down to individuals? Is it systems? Is it
motivation? Is it the team's overall quality? I tend to agree with the
holding player analysis (Doyle/ Faye) that someone posted earlier but I'm
far too far away to be sure. If we are missing a player for a key position
then all the tinkering in the world with the rest won't make a bit of
difference.

What is your opinion? (And before you start you'll find it hard to convince
me that it is all Becchio's fault ;))
