Fired it up today

2022-12-14 Thread Rick Boeing
Hey guys I finally fired up my mill today. I was a little intimidating to
be honest. But just looked at it as a lathe powered by a router. I started
with a 4x4 reclaimed piece of doug fir. Spun it into a round then cut a
couple spirals into it. Wanted to cut a couple more in the opposite
direction. Couldn't figure it out. Called Tim and he walked me through it.
So nothing impressive to show you but I DIDNT screw anything up anything.
And OMG I now see the fascination with this machine. The possibilities are
endless. Also the guy that made the giant wood screw that is awesome. BILL
I think. But you need to cease and desist on making them. As PRESIDENT of
the I hate slotted screws even though I love old iron. Make it a Phillips
at least. I will be asking alot of questions now please be patient with
me.

Newbie

2022-10-18 Thread Rick Boeing
Hey guys thanks for having me in this group. I've wanted a lom ever since
they came out back in the day. It started with the craftsman routercrafter
along time ago. I picked one up about a year ago and joined the group. I
haven't had time to play with it yet but that's changing very soon. Then I
picked up another one in a bundled equipment purchase. I'm not sure of
model# but the first one I got is about 9 1/2' long with the servo motors
and the other is about 7 1/2' long also with the servo motors. My question
is should I keep the smaller one for parts down the road? I know that parts
are not very easy to come across. And I don't have much invested in it
anyway.

Re: ornamental milling for beginners episode 5

2022-10-17 Thread Rick Boeing
Hey guys I have a question for you. Bill is making videos for us newbies
and in the one video he put a bit in his router and it looked like it was
an extension type collet. It also looked like he just tighten up with a
Allen wrench. Is this a thing and where do you get it from? Thanks Rick
