I am only responding to your second observation about backups. The
latest updates to Legacy 7 have included the backup date as part of
the file name to be backed up. I am very happy about this update,
because I was saving my backups by date anyway. This change has saved
me much time,
I also just realized that it is a great way to see if changes are also

Say you recieved some new info on a person, such as a missing birth date.

What a great idea! I've just learned the value of the Find a Grave
number, as that is the info needed to make relationship links in Find
a Grave. This is a good way to track your work, particularly if
you're not using the User ID field for anything else (and I was not.)

My understanding is that in V7 the programmers added non-blood
relationships to the RC. This appears to have increased the time it
takes to perform the calculations exponentially. I don't think they have
provided a way for a user to optionally turn off non-blood calculations.

I should have said in my original answer that initially I was NOT able
to duplicate the problem.
My Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is to use the Save/Close Button on
any screen in Legacy. When I first tested the problem I automatically
used Save on the marriage
I just realized I could put that extra USER ID field to good use. When I
post info for someone to findagrave.com I put the Find A Grave Memorial # in
the User ID field.
I set the fields showing on my main screen to:
Birth Date Place
Death Date Place
Burial Date Place
Names Alternate 1
User ID
I would summarize it this way -- whether or not this is a bug (and by
the technical definition of what constitutes a bug, I would say it is
not one), this is a behavior that no one would *ever* want or expect,
and thus it certainly deserves to be changed in a future revision.

To the second part of your problems, the default for the backup adds the
date to the file name so it is always going to create a new file. But, you
have an option to turn the date stamp off. If you choose that, you will
again get the message to overwrite the existing file.

The way the File ID's show up is under Output on the Assigned Sources
window as long as you click the Show all (or something, too lazy to open
Legacy right now) button (far left) but since Legacy 7 it doesn't stay
on between screens and has to be clicked to turn it on over and over and
over.

the Main Screen instead of the RIN. Not sure it's better than
looking at the File ID, but it is a quick way to see the family line

You could have both. The handy part about having the File ID's in the
source citations is that if you ever want to mail out a chart to
some-one with the accompanying source documents, they can easily match
things up by number.
