Jim, Yes it is that simple. The + sign beside a relationship in that area above a person's name means there is more than one. If you right click on someone with a + sign you will see the option to view additional relationships for THAT person. The reason you did not see that choice with John

The alternate name appears in my Index of Names in the Modifed Descendant report. It has a prefex of ~ so that you know it is an alternate name. I am using Legacy 7.0.0.86 - the latest build. You do have to choose to include alternate names in the Index option in the Descendant Report window.
