I am attempting to clean up my Master Location database, and I have two

Hi,
We just had a very long thread about this. You can find it in the
archives. The link is at the bottom of this mail. Look also for other

Could someone explain step-by-step how the Clipboard works? I've looked at the
archives, and I've tried to use it but it seems sooo frustrating and not
time-saving at all to me. Yet I see where others use it all the time and like
it. I just don't get what I am supposed to put in it and how to
You will find plenty of discussion in the list archive about whether to
include the street address in the location field. Including quite recently.
Regarding the township, my opinion is that it unnecessarily
lengthens/clutters the location, in the case where you know the city/town
name. So:

Just before the last save on a data entry event, there are two boxes in the

Then when you go to another person, open event, select 'add' and then click on

Check out the video training page at:

Watch the first. It has some good examples.
Then watch the preview on sources. Geoff talks about the clipboard.

The bottom line is, that each clipboard works as if a multifield Ctrl-C and
Ctrl-P tool. It duplicates a full screen page to be moved to a different place:
person 1 to 2, source 4 to 5. Then when there, you can change any or all
fields. Do little experimenting. Backup first, then explore. The

The videos explain the process pretty well; however my Legacy Version 7.4
Deluxe shows the items I mentioned:
(1) Hover/Click/Open the 'show events for this person' icon on a person (5th
box from left under the individual);
(2) Once opened, you can 'add', 'edit', etc. - After you enter all the

Now I get it, you mean icons.
I've never bothered with a lot of the frills in Legacy because I've
found most of them tailored primarily to USA data whereas only about 10%
of my data originates there.
Thanks for the explanation.

So when would you use the Clipboard? All of my event data is unique to
that particular person.

You would use it when the information in the Master Source is common to a

As regards to GEDCOM export, when you are on the GEDCOM export screen, click
Customise. Then Export these items. Surety level is the QUAY tag. Remove it.
I have a number of items I customise so I saved a list that I load each time.

How sad it is that they didn't allow it for those of us using Basic Sourcing.
One of the strong point os Legacy used to be accommodating many users.
We were ignored, and the time it takes to enter 5 identical sources to scores
of individuals is ridiculous! BRING IT BACK!!

Thanks Jennifer, Ron, and Mike for your quick responses. I believe I lost the

You can't. That's not what either Clipboard in Legacy does.
