I have just noticed a couple of strange things with my file or rather with
a report from my data. I have created a Descendant Narrative report. One
woman, named Eliza, is reported as having a husband called Tom. Trouble is,
my data does not show any husband for Eliza. Nor is there a Tom in
I don't know the answer to this dilemma, but when I have discovered
weird things in the past where something was embedded, or more or less
invisible - I would delete the entire records involved and put them back
in again and see if the results are the same. Just a thought...but it
would be nice
Or even the USA County Verifier, which lists all counties in all
states along with the date they were founded and disbanded (if that
happened). it also shows the parent counties and name changes.
Although you can't print the list out, you could do a screen shot and
enter the data into the new

Do you have Legacy installed in the recommended C:\Legacy\ folder?
Jan,
I do not consider that deleting files at this stage is a good idea, a
check/repair, as suggested by Brian, is certainly a better starting point.
One thing is, however, very clear - you do have a Tom in your database, if
you didn't then he would not appear have you searched your Research
I've had it there for however long it's been since I got Win7 (right
after it came out). I've never had any problems.
Most problems arise from malware in emails and suspicious webpages and
downloads. If you keep good quality security software updated and
running, you shouldn't have any problems.
Thanks Sherry. And yes to Dennis' question, I have re-installed Legacy
recently to the recommended directory - C:/Legacy

Well, I guess the slash mark should be C:\Legacy

As an alternative I believe that all requirements are met when you use a
folder C:\Program Files 2\Legacy\..., and you can also add all your
other programs to C:\Program Files 2\ (to separate them from the
Windows, system and other basic PC programs that run the machine).

Hi,
I have it set to *Default - notify me only when programs try to make changes to
my computer and that setting has never caused me any problems in Legacy (or
any other program) that I am aware of. Yes, I have the program installed in
C:\Legacy, but my data (fdb file) and multimedia are
Brett,
That is very true, but in reality it is no different to installing in
C:\Legacy\, except that you have added a folder which has no effect.

I also have my UAC to the default. Never had a problem, nor any program.
I am not going to change it for any program.
I have Legacy installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Legacy7Beta

I prefer my own control. UAC is turned off for me. I take all primary secondary
and tertiary precautions with AV and firewall security. I have Legacy in two
different folders and the computer never back-cheeks with *my* decisions.

I also had mine set to the default, but when I imported a gedcom file
into Legacy, it would not create my error log. So, I changed the
setting to NEVER NOTIFY and did the process all over again and I was
then able to create the error log. I might have to test it again to be
sure that was the
Jerry,
Did you have the problem with the error log before you re-installed to
C:\Legacy? I can certainly see that there would be problems if at the time your
installation was in the Program Files directory, Windows certainly wouldn't
like writing an error log file there.

Hi Mark,
But that's my question, I guess. We know that Legacy discourages (that's
putting it mildly) installing in the Program files directory, but as long as
one installs in the recommended C:\Legacy directory, I have yet to hear why UAC
needs to be turned off.

Thanks Ron, and Brian.
I should have thought of check/repair myself. The only thing I can think of
that gave Eliza a marriage to Tom was that I had entered it at some stage,
then, upon realising that the marriage occurred before Eliza was born I deleted
it as obviously being wrong. I don't
Paul,
Point taken. I thought the discussion was aimed at Legacy installed in the
Program Files, then yes turn UAC off. If in the desired C:\Legacy, then by all
means it is not necessary. Trying to keep multi-thread discussions and
inputting data and half other things at once it best left for

In my experience they would. I cannot think off the top of my head of an
occasion when such a problem self corrected even when shutting down and
opening up again. It may have happened, of course, but more often than not
it still seems to be there. Although I have known closing and opening
I am currently searching the 1911 UK census and I have tagged everyone

the Australians because they won't be on the census.

I have just found a bunch of Australians in my tree with blank birth and
christening locations.
Is there any way to tag all descendants of a specific individual and
then, if their birth and christening locations are both blank, set the
birth location to Australia?
