I will first try with the Intellishare merge you suggested.
Creating a new family file & merging all from backups (yes they did all
originate from the same family file).
If plan B is needed, I will try the word compare option

I don't know of anything that compares genealogy files and shows
differences. The comparison programs/features show similariites rather
than differences - eg the Compare Two files tool in Legacy on the Tools
Ribbon tab shows potential duplicates between the files.

First search for everyone who has something in their General Notes
Search > Find > Detailed Search Tab
Look for individuals where Notes General NOT Equal to blank leave what
to look for empty
From the Search list you can use options > Print to create a custom
report which includes the G
