I never even thought of doing anything about steps beyond what Legacy
does, now G I have lots to think about.
I just let Legacy assign husband and wife etc should I be doing more?
I see the relationships easily from the childrens settings, it gets a
bit hard for the many his, hers and ours

FWIW. If the child actually lived with the step parent, then I would link
that child to the step parent and indicate the relationship.

Hi Lisa,
I'm wondering what outcome you're wanting to achieve with this? Is it
just to see all the kids of either partner in a marriage/relationship
when viewing them in Legacy? If that's the case, then you can turn on
show half kids to do that.
Right click on a child View Show 1/2 Kids
If the child lives with the steparent or not, they still are a stepchild.

Thank you everyone for your responses. It has be very informative.
Wendy, I didn't know about turning on Show 1/2 kids - that is very handy
with my tree! In this case it wasn't so much what I wanted to achieve with
it, more a case what does using this setting change so I could make up my
mind
