Joe,
Yes, and with OpenOffice as well. It is also a very good way of corrupting your
database and rendering it completely unusable.
Whether you are an expert in Access or OpenOffice or not, you should always
work on a copy of your .fdb file and not the original.

My question would be, why would you want to open it in Access? What do you
want to do that you can’t do within Legacy itself? I am asking because I have
no idea. I have Access on my computer but I don't have a clue how to use it :)

This is an incredible day for genealogy! was Tom Kemp's theme in today's
webinar. I'll add to that, what an incredible webinar Tom! This is one
you won't want to miss. Tom discusses his favorite websites and gives
tips/tricks along the way. The Q/A session, too, was terrific.

I need advice on sourcing an obit. It is a regular obituary from a
newspaper. Do you recommend using Sourcewriter / newspaper? Or should I
create an 'Event' Obituaries?
I am struggling with this as I know it will make a difference in Reports.
My ultimate goal is to have the obituary print out

Marie,
The choice is yours and should be based upon how, and where you wish to see
the output.
To-date, I have used Obits as a source for the names of people who were
present at a funeral and relationship to the deceased, if given. However,
having read Geoff’s, description of the scope of
It sounds like that I don't even want to think about using Access PERIOD!
Fine by me. I have enough things to worry about :)

PAF has the same logging as Legacy. PAF tracks the last changed date for
a person, it does not, as the OP asked, track changes to individual bits

Ummm ... yeah, it does. Someone who never used a system
older than, say, 2 years has less experience with what can
go wrong than someone who has been working with 'em 20
years. Then too, the longer you work with them the more
things DO go wrong, so you're more aware of the potential.

I have added 1248 records from the 1860 US Federal Census into my
database. There are all linked in individual family units just as they
appear in the census. I have detail information in the following format
that was added to the General Notes field for each record:

Cliff,
I’m sorry about the blank post, my email reader crashed!
I don’t think that you can do this from within Legacy but you could use Access
or OpenOffice. I am not sure if LTools has a routine to do this, but for its
users Dennis may be prepared to write the SQL for use in his program.

How does one print a change log in Legacy 7.5 Deluxe? I think I've checked all
report, list and tool options and cannot find it. I've checked change log in
the help system and cannot find it addressed.

I have never seen a .pal file but then I am not a PAF expert either. I
only checked what was in the PAF file and it only has a modified date. I
guess PAF does have better logging than Legacy. I can not find a .pal
file for the file I edited yesterday when looking to see what kind of
change data
There is no separate log file. Legacy only records the date changed for
individual and marriage records. You can search of people whose
individual or marriage change date is on a certain date, after a date or
before a date using
Search Find Detailed Search.

Thanks Brian, that is what I needed. I had not noticed the Added Date/Time and

I have pondered about this a few times. It may be possible to compare one
Legacy database with an older copy and display the differences. The process
would involve keeping backup copies of the database which is probably already
being done and then having the computer compare two files for
