OK, I think there is a BUG. I was using the test version of the software when
replying earlier. When I use the publicly released version the wrong screen
 is opened by that version.

In the test version I was using the screen that opens does allow me to choose
 to download from FS-FT.

I will have to submit a problem report to have this fixed.

 I am still having difficulty.

I get the setup wizard to open. No problem so far.

In the top section, it shows me existing family files and asks if I want to
open one of them. I don't, so I go down to Other Choices and click on
Download my family from Family Search. That opens up the screen I referred
to earlier My information is in another Genealogy program My options are
'No Thanks' which just creates an empty file, or 'Yes, please' which gives a
wizard to enter myself, spouse if applicable, and parents of both. As far as
I can see there is no option related to Family Search.

 What am I missing?

I thought last night there was a second setting that affects what you see
starting a new file. It was late, I was making a last check before going to
bed and I did not remember where to find it and did not try everywhere
 before sending my reply.

 Found it today!
 Go to Options Customize Other
Section 12.5 Messages boxes, click the button for reminder messages.
On the Prompts and Reminders tab click one of these two options:
Prompt to use the Guided setup wizard when starting a new file; or Open the
 setup wizard automatically.

My option was set to open the wizard automatically and that is why I got the
same options as the first time you use Legacy. If you select the prompt
option you will be asked and can elect to use or not use the setup wizard
 each time.

I just tried both the Hourglass Chart and the Bow Tie Chart – no problems – you
need to specify the number of generations above and below the selected couple.
i.e. you start with the central couple in the standard view then select Legacy
Charting and the type of Chart.

[LegacyUG] Report for Cemetery information

2015-02-09 Thread Marli Yoder
Hi- I have a list of all of my people buried in Oak Grove Cemetery. (event
address report) I need to put the names together (as husband wife, or son or
daughter of...) The Cemetery is being sued for failure to do upkeep. I need the
list to send to the MO Attorney General's office. Note that not all of my list
is directly related to me, but I don't want their names forgotten either. The
perpetual care fund was in place at some point...
So, what type of report would do this in an uncomplicated way? Any suggestions

Hope I made myself clear-

The only way to review the webinars without a connection is to buy the

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy and Dropbox

2015-02-09 Thread Bruce Jones
Excellent description and explanation Cathy!
On Feb 8, 2015 11:04 PM, Cathy Pinner genea...@gmail.com wrote:

 Hi Keith,
You may want to look at the archives as this is often discussed. (see link
 at the bottom of email)

Whether or not keeping your working Legacy file in Dropbox ( the .fdb and
all the related files) is a good idea depends on two things. The speed of
your internet access and your degree of discipline and patience.
If you're not switching computers, there's no problem. The problem arises
if you open the Dropbox file on another computer before:
 a) the latest version has fully uploaded from the other computer
 or
 b) before the latest version has fully downloaded to this computer.
If you don't wait for both processes to complete before using the file,
you end up with conflicted copies.

If you decide to keep your family file in Dropbox, you need to tell Legacy
that that is where it is. So you go to Options Customise - 1.2 and choose
the D ropbox file to be the one to open on starting Legacy.
You might also want to go to Options Customise 6.1 and make your Dropbox
Legacy sub-folder the default data folder.

Note that this doesn't mean you don't need Documents\Legacy Family Tree\
Your settings will still be held at ... Documents\Legacy Family
 Tree\_AppData\

I don't keep my working family file in Dropbox but do keep the backups I
make in Dropbox and my attached media. (I don't use the Legacy backup to
 backup the media).

If my internet connection was always fast (I get variable speed) AND I
often switched computers I would probably keep my working family file in
 Dropbox.

Hi Nancy,

The sourcing procedure in Legacy 8 is the same as in Legacy 7.
The Watch Geoff Live webinars are a great way of learning how to use Legacy.

They are still applicable for many of us.

There are many of us who must still use Legacy 7 because in Legacy 8 some of
the functions and reports that are essential to our work are still too buggy or
get bugs in new updates.

We are anxious to switch, but must still use Legacy 7. We are SO glad that
webinars for our version are still available. Especially now that there are no
new updates for Legacy 7, all the help we can get is essential.

Impatient to be able to use Legacy 8!

In reports, the Event address for the primary event will be included

I don't think the original poster advocated for the removal of old

Geoff,

I really hesitate to ask, however what about the Legacy Family Tree Video
Training Series - Vol. 2? This series contains important Legacy instruction
dealing with report, searching, tagging, digital media, and more yet is listed
as currently out of print. The set is still listed in the Legacy store and on
the main Legacy web page. Are there any plans to redo this series for Legacy 8?

Sincerely,

Denise Moss-Fritch

I would like to do an hourglass chart of a cousin's family. I want him,
his parents, his wife, her parents, and all their progeny.

I can't seem to find that option also did not see it in Legacy help.

Is it available in Legacy if so, how/where?

 Thanks,
 Pat

Sorry, didn't know you wanted grand kids, too. I don't see any way to do what
you want other than to create 2 charts and cut and paste.
