Re: [LegacyUG] Search in Source Detail - Text and Comments

2017-06-03 Thread Jennifer Crockett
Thanks, Cathy.

I did eventually find some more by a circuitous route. (Most of the problems
were with particulars of land transfers so I made a search list with the word
“simple” from “Fee simple” in the Source Details.) I then went through the
individuals in the list (mercifully short). What I found was that in some cases
I had a period adjoining the emdash so I should have been searching for .’97

Prior to doing the above I tried searching for \emdash but it brought no
results.

Jennifer,

Yes it's really annoying.

You can search Source Citation for \emdash to find them.
Yes I know most places it shows as '97 but if you look at the preview in the
Name List/Search List it shows as \emdash and that's the only way I could find
the ones I added to the Sample file.

You can use Search and Replace on the right Citation part (in Search and
Replace Citation = Source Details) to replace again using \emdash and making
sure you're only replacing the found text.

Make sure you do backups before using Search and Replace.

I've upped the priority of this issue in the bug tracker.

Re: [LegacyUG] Sorted Lists

I presume you mean names as Surnames by themselves don't usually have
dates :D

You can use the Name List or the Search List and choose your criteria
and "Print" to CSV file and then sort in a Spreadsheet.
Note Excel doesn't recognise dates before 1901 so you first should go to
Options customise 5.1 and change the date format to -mm-dd

Then the dates will sort as text or numbers.
I understand Open Office Spreadsheet doesn't have this inability.

[LegacyUG] Tip of the Day

2017-06-03 Thread Michele/Support
TIP OF THE DAY (Legacy Staff) - Fun with Hashtags

(Legacy 9)

Background information - My uncle took a yDNA test at 111 markers. He has
two matches and they both match him at 110 markers and they match each other
at 111. All three lines end in a brick wall and we are yet to find the
connection. I have inputted both of these additional lines into Legacy and
have started doing research on them. My goal is to figure out where the
three lines intersect.

I want to use Hashtags to indicate all of the direct line male ancestors of
all three lines (each line gets its own Hashtag). I started with my line. My
brick wall ancestor is James Simmons born 14 Aug 1764. I went to SEARCH >
FIND > MISC. I created a Focus Group of James' descendants and then sent
that to a Search List. I then changed over to the Detailed Search tab. My
criteria was

Male > Surname > Equal to > Simmons

"Only search the Search List" (this part is important)

I have 217 people on my Search List. They are all of James' direct line male
descendants. Next I went to OPTIONS > ADD HASHTAG TO EVERYONE IN LIST. The
name of my Hashtag is

Simmons Group - James Simmons Descendants (the desciption field has "yDNA
match - TEST TAKER'S NAME" )

I then did the same thing with the other two lines.

Simmons Group - William Simmons Descendants (yDNA match - TEST TAKER'S NAME)

Simmons Group - William Simmons Descendants (yDNA match - TEST TAKER'S NAME)

(two different Williams)

I have several other Simmons Groups

Simmons Group - Silver Creek Simmons

Simmons Group - Balo Chitto Simmons

Simmons Group - Natchez Simmons

Simmons Group - Perry County

Simmons Group - 10&20 Consolidated LA Militia War of 1812

Simmons Group - 13th Regiment MS Militia War of 1812

The ultimate goal is to find overlap especially since I have quite a few
Simmons' floating around in my file as unlinked.

Re: [LegacyUG] One event will not print

2017-06-03 Thread Brian Kelly

Two things to check:
1. What privacy settings are used for the event? This can be in two
areas. The Master event can be set as private or the event may be set as
private when linked to a person so you may need to check the privacy of
the event on each person.

2. If the event is private then do you have private events turned on in
the report settings, privacy area.
