Re: [LegacyUG] Hello from MyHeritage + 2 unique offers

2017-09-14 Thread Rick Koelz
Susie Z,
I called and they told me the offer for existing subscribers expired 9/10
or 9/11. She checked and said the deal for existing MyHeritage had expired.
So I told her to cancel my subscription and refund the remaining balance -
which she did. Then I subscribed at the reduced rate from Geoff's email.

Re: [LegacyUG] Find A Grave Link

2017-05-15 Thread Rick Koelz
Howland,
The Find A Grave search algorithm only matches on EXACT equals. When I get
No Records Found I click on the Refine Last Search option in the left
column and modify the fields used in the initial attempt. I've found that
Middle Names cause many of my misses. Also adding Location Details helps.

If you haven't done so watch Geoff's "Discover the New Legacy 9" webinar.
He shows several good hints for working with Find A Grave (
https://familytreewebinars.com/download.php?webinar_id=634).

Happy Searching,
Rick

OLD STYLE & NEW STYLE DATES FOR THE QUAKER CALENDAR

You are probably familiar with the change from the Julian to the Gregorian

Don,
Would you be willing to share your VBA procedures?
I had to abandon Shared Events because they wouldn't export properly.
Thanks,

Don, I'm sorry I don't have an answer for your dilemma, but TNG also
maintains an email list for its users and it has quite a few programmer
types involved there as well as the owner/creator of the software. If
there is a way to do what you need, they might be able to help. A large
number of them use Legacy and TNG. Here's the link to join the email

 Jay,

That works for the “delete” lines, but doesn’t help with the “add” lines
that are needed for the “secondary” individuals to get their “own” event.

I don’t want to give up the Share feature of Legacy because it’s a big
time saver. But I do want accurate trees in Ancestry to help with my
research, and in TNG (though I’m just starting there) to get my tree on to
 the Web.

I ‘m going to play around with importing the text GED file into Excel and
writing some VB macros to do what is needed. Was hoping to avoid that
 effort.

 Don.

Try Using Notepad++ for editing your gedcom

 Search for
 2 _Shar

and select the find all lines with this

then repeat the process for the 3 _Role

Then at least you can see all the lines and I think you can even delete
 them all at once.

Otherwise I would just go back to Legacy 7.5 and use that to keep in sync.

The partial GED file below shows that the changes are not complicated and
could be made manually in a text editor – except for the fact that family
files may have 100s or 1000s of shared events/individuals. Way too many to
 do by hand.

[LegacyUG] Moving FROM FTM

2012-02-29 Thread Rick Koelz
I'm going to take the plunge and move from FTM (after 10+ years) to Legacy.
Is there information available on making this move? I know how to
export/import GEDCOMs. But is there a list of best practices or possible
pitfalls to watch out for as I move my files?

Thanks in advance for any advice or instructions.
Rick
