it is reasonably priced. It comes in , what?, about 35 languages and I'm sorry

Most of us don't want/need a program that prints great, great aunt Mary
Elizabeth's spouse's parents and all his siblings and their children in
reports. Please go to the trees online that are trying to get the universe all

I am not a name and BMD collector. I do family history, and Legacy allows me
to fill in all those events of a person's life; a place to keep the stories;
the sourcing options are extensive. I can add all kinds of pictures and
videos. I love the chronology report to see where I'm still needing to do
research on a person. It's perfect for getting to know your ancestors. I even

What I like best about Legacy is: I still get to do the thinking - there are
so many options on every screen. The program and computer do not make those
decisions for me. I am responsible for the data, I am responsible for the

So, for the sake of the majority of Legacy users, please, stop this constant

Re: [LegacyUG] Software

Since some people are having problems creating reports, has anyone tried
"the complete genealogy reporter" by Nigel Bufton? It is a robust version
that is built into the MyHeritage Family Builder software. The reports
that are created are very customizable and flexible. Just tossing this idea
out there for others who might need a way to create nice reports.

I have contacted the Legacy service about their not listing parents' names
of spouses.
This was their reply: I am sorry, this is still in testing. We have not
been given an ETA for a general release build. When it comes to a release
date, it all depends on testing and how it goes. If testing goes bad and
bugs are found, they have to be fixed and then retested. Because of this,
we are not able to predict when a build will be ready for general release.

It is a BIG deal when you are writing a descendant's report when siblings
marry siblings. I am working on a family right now that two siblings
married siblings and two more of their siblings married two other siblings.
Yes, this makes a difference. I am not whining. That being said, I do LOVE

It was the user's who did and STILL DO, I will stress but that both Legacy and
MyHeritage are still doing a good job of looking after members (wish multiple

I agree with CE WOOD, I believe Heritage bought Legacy yo get their users
buying into their online genealogy database and abandoning Legacy, it’s much
more profitable for them. Well I’m not buying into that.

And speaking about backup, I never used their online backup anyway. I store all
my file on my home computer and backup my files to an external hard drive AND
in addition to Dropbox. And I do that all automatically, starting a batch file
that first backups my file before opening Legacy, then opening Legacy, and when
I close Legacy the batch file continues and copies all the changed files to the
external hard drive and then to my Dropbox folder. And I always watch out that
my Dropbox folder is up to date before I shut my computer down ( which I rarely
do, basically only when updates require it).

2022-01-31 Thread Randall Dodds
Good morning, at least it is where I am at this moment. I try not to link on to
chain notes I get in my email. But this post has hit me as I ask a few years
ago when the purchase was released that he had sold Legacy. I ask Geoff at the
time when was the release of the Mac version on Legacy go to happen. “NOT” I
even offered to be a beta tester. This was after being told one was. I was told
by Geoff after a webinar it was really soon. I Like the program and really want
a Mac version of it. In fact, I use MyHeritage Family tree builder for years as
now my main program for my tree on the Web. I got to say it is long in the
tooth as genealogy software goes and lacks some important key items that others
now have and are needed as a researcher. If anyone at MyHeritage is reading
these posts, I hope you would consider looking at a Mac version for the Legacy
program and put to rest the builder program.

All the gripes about MyHeritage buying Legacy is pretty much mirror of Ancestry
when they went on buying spree.

The user looses out yet

That has been well known, as has the inexcusable number of years they have been
telling those of us who enabled them become what used to be the best gene
database, that it's too difficult for the Legacy programmers to undertake.

As to backups, you can backup to as many locations as you want. Every time I
make any changes, I backup to two separate backup folders on my desktop, as
well as to two separate USB drives on my desktop, to one USBC external hard
drive, and to the Cloud service that I use. It is a bit time consuming, because
I can't simply have Legacy do that automatically do that. But, considering how
many years I have put into collecting the data and media, a few extra minutes
are well worth it.

Another wishlist feature adding to what others have requested is an extra
backup option. I know there were legal/logistic issues when the Legacy cloud
storage option was removed. However I would like to have both a "local" and a
"remote" backup option. Local is local to the PC or home network. Remote could
be to a cloud service. This would fit the 3 2 1 best practice (3 copies, 2
locations and one in a different location).

I like the Legacy features (the ones I use at least) and know migrating is a
big deal so I am OK for now. However it would be good to "feel" like there is a
degree of ongoing progress and improvement. Knowing there is a schedule of
updates and improvements might demonstrate Legacy has "life" and is fully
supported. For example,

Mika,
I've never used an iPad.
Somehow the converted file has to go from your computer to your iPad.

For an Android tablet I just connect it via USB and the Families Sync
software transfers it.

See the Help file on Families Sync and the website
http://www.telgen.co.uk/families/
There are user forums there as well.

Mika,

To use Families on your iPad an iPhone, you need to get the app from the store
and then go to
http://www.telgen.co.uk/families/
and get the Families Sync program for you computer.
That's what converts and syncs the databases.
It's not automatic.
You'll find more directions and videos on that website.

[LegacyUG] Software Question

2014-07-07 Thread Bill Hoff
Greetings,

Using Legacy software is a struggle for me. I've recently switched from
other software to Legacy 8 Deluxe. I did download and also purchased the
disc. That was just before my hard drive crashed. I'm now up to speed with
the hard drive and away from home, some 1,475 miles. I had uploaded the
Legacy 8 software from the disc before leaving and restored the data files.
All looked to be in order before traveling. Now when attempting to trace a
relationship, a message is received that this can only be done with the
Deluxe version, which I assumed I had reloaded. I do see that there is a
later version than the Deluxe version said to be on my PC. Tried to
download that version but need product codes, which I do not have with me
but assume to be 1,475 miles west! Is there anything I can do to clear this
up while away from home?
