Should read probably not making it a requirement until OSX ships 1.11 by
default.

Ok, turns out that libtool error was a known issue with ubuntu 11.10 and the
dash shell - setting CONFIG_SHELL to /bin/bash worked for me. I expect this
to be fixed upstream though.
