[Libreoffice-qa] Not Receiving Replies Correctly - Ideas?

2012-12-13 Thread Joel Madero
Hi All,

This is becoming a serious issue on my side and I wanted feedback. Earlier
I sent out an email to Libo-QA and LibO user mailing list about our
conference call tomorrow. Two people replied but I didn't get the replies,
instead Rob pointed out that he had replied and I responded that I hadn't
received any reply.

http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Libreoffice-qa-LibreOffice-QA-Conference-Call-December-14th-2012-1400-UTC-td4024195.html

That's the full conversation, I only have the sent item that I sent, not
the reply by Florian and Rob.I need a solution if I'm to work
efficiently :(

Thanks in advance, I know that this is a little off topic but I need help
immediately to get this straightened out. Using Gmail + Thunderbird

Regards,
Joel

[Libreoffice-qa] Blocker Bug Reported Against 4 - Windows Custom Install Fails

2012-12-13 Thread Joel Madero

Hi All,

This is an urgent one as we are starting our test week, can someone with
Windows see if they can reproduce:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58275

If we can, we'll have to come up with a plan as it may prevent a lot of
users from participating in our marathon test week.

I'm doing edits to the page, for anyone with experience with QA, please
add your name to the list of experts where users can directly ping us

[Libreoffice-qa] Minutes - QA Call 2012/11/30

2012-12-06 Thread Joel Madero

*Time Start: 1405 UTC

Participants: Bjoern, Joel, Florian, Petr
+Another participant was present, apologies for not getting name

*Completed Action Items
+BSA
-Invitation to participate after submitting a bug [Rob]
+Wiki
-Basic triage instructions (BSA linked to this page) [Joel Petr]
+FDO
-Renamed 3.7 master to 4.0 master and moved bugs [Joel]

*Pending Action Items
+FDO
-Old Bugs (6+ months, no activity) Options
*Concern that really old bugs are no longer bugs any longer
on current releases but that they were fixed independent of the bug and
therefore never marked as RESOLVED → FIXED

*New White Board Status Possible (Inactive)
*Lower Priority Automatically
-Problems with this, not a good option
*Using Enhancement Status More
-Concern that bugs might be listed as Enhancement
accidentally
*Any option will require communication with bug submitter
to ask for further testing
*This isn't an urgent matter and any solution should be
well thought out before implementing

-Identifying Most Active Bugs
*Similar to the heat meter which Canonical uses for bugs
*Joel is going to play around with FDO and see if there's
any way we can do something similar internally

+Bugzilla OpenID Alternatives
-OpenID is not an option
*Bjoern will discuss with Tolef to find out if there are
alternatives

  *Possibilities include GoogleID, Facebook, Twitter
-Goal to have one authenticator is unlikely to occur
*Florian is a big fan of Google Login
+BSA
-Localization
*Rob discussed during hackfest, said sounds good should be
doable

*Joel will email Rob for Update

+Twitter Feed
-Twitter feed to announce bug fixes (great for
marketing/getting more volunteers involved)

*Bjoern researching this, will ping Florian about this
-Note that there is a max per hour for tweets but we shouldn't
hit this limit

+Goals
-Punt until after release of version 4.0

+Hard Hacks
-Keep an eye out for hard hacks
-Joel add 57619

*New Items
+Meetbot
-Meetbot is set up and Bjoern/Joel played around with it,
weren't quite comfortable enough to use it yet

-Not very functional for making agendas
-Minutes uploaded to TDF server, not Wiki
*Joel will link to documents from wiki
-Goal to try during next QA Call

+Funding Wish List
-Discussed Marc's funding wish list
*http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Marketing/Funding_Priorities
-Going to be a limited funding request because most larger
items paid for, just need volunteers to implement

-QA Travel Expenses
*Travel expenses not paid separate from main fund, no need
to request

-FDO Improvements
*Possibly pay someone through a contract to implement some
of Rainer's list of improvements to FDO

*Bjoern will go through list and prioritize them, try to
come up with amount

-Prizes/Thank You's for most active QA volunteers
*Possible, need to discuss more and come up with concrete plan

+Leadership Structure/”Board of QA”
-First thing has to be getting call right and getting more
people involved

-Question about if we need a board at all is still up in the air
-Joel will announce next Call to user list as a test to see how
it goes

+Triage Contest
-General agreement that this is a good idea
-Date is a concern, right after final release of 4 might be good
because a lot of people are excited about the release

-Bjoern will talk to TDF Board about money
-Joel will start creating a wiki
-Next meeting we will discuss more details
-Talk to Cor Nouws Italo Vignoli about their experience
-See
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugHunting_Session_3.5.0.-1 for
example

*To Do List

+Joel
-See if we can get some “heat meter” internally with what is
available on FDO

-Make wiki for triage contest
-Contact Rob about localized BSA
-Announce next QA call on user list
-Add hard hack
-Get comfortable with meetbot

+Bjoern
-OpenID Alternatives
-Twitter Feed
-Go through FDO list to see if we can pay someone to implement
changes

-Discuss money with TDF for triage contest

Time End: 1505 UTC

Yup, people will be busy with getting Xmas presents these days :-)

  With the promise that
- we mobilise as much people from our regular teams to show up for

- we of course provide comprehensive, clear info to get started;
- we focus both on random testing, scenario's and bug triage.

By spreading it over 7 days, it's easier for people to feel able to join
 :-)

Initial announcements would not be too hard. Could do that
  Monday/Tuesday (evening).
Exchange among team members for availability can be done later this week.
  Preparing info is rather easy...

Sounds great. Thanks a lot for taking care of it.

I'd be able to participate off and on. My wife's and my birthday falls in

I thought that mails for the BSA always went to the QA-list. But I saw
last that the bugs for the BSA are sent to the website-list. What is
the list to discuss the BSA on?

My opinion is that everything BSA related should be done through QA
list. I also think that the four or five us us with BSA permissions need
to figure out a way to communicate with each other easily when we're
updating (or if we need updated to be temporarily not done). I only
update BSA when FDO gets updated but I know that at times I'm behind by
a day or two and if someone else did it before me

At the moment when we create a new feature for the BSA then we must
update the production-site of the BSA to the new version and then ask
other people if they can work with it. That is not ideal. At my pc I
can test for Firefox and Chromium. But I can't try Internet Explorer
or Safari or any of the others. It would great if we would be able to
let other people test new versions also to see if they get problems.
I don't know how much hassle that is, but could that be done?

I'm open to suggestions, just not sure what the best solution is.

Regards,
Joel

[UX] FDO#54975 - Should Formulas Be Considered Values If there is No Cell Reference - Advice

2012-11-24 Thread Joel Madero

Hi All,
We need UX input on this bug:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54975

Seems like we already have two different opinions. Basically we need to
know if a cell should be considered a value if there is no cell
reference in the formula, for instance:

=24/8

Personally I think it should, a lot of the times with harder
calculations it's just easier to enter a formula but we are really just
aiming at getting to the value. If we consider it a value and not a
formula we would expect conditional formatting to work with them, that's
the crutch of the bug report.

[Libreoffice-qa] Minutes - QA Call 11/16/2012

2012-11-20 Thread Joel Madero

*Time Start: 1405 UTC
+Slight mix up with call in number, Joel fixed on wiki and sent out
correction email shortly before meeting

* Present
+Bjoern, Florian, Joel, Peter
+Mas joined near end of meeting, time mix up

*Completed Action Items
+Flos server installation program
+The minimal build LibO SI GUI is downloading matches 99%
compared to release configuration only missing MediaWiki and NLPSolver

*Pending Action Items
+None

*Bugzilla
+bugzilla Openid alternatives
+OpenID broken
+Facebook/Twitter – possibly Gmail
+Punting for next time, Bjoern will investigate
+ localized bsa stuff
+French Brazillian communities have shown interest
+BSA would go to mailing list instead where someone could
translate to English and then put on FDO
+Benefit would be that non-English speakers could get good
quality bug reports on FDO and that this would make duplicates less likely

+Setup is basically there already, shouldn't be hard to implement
+Goal to try with one language first (most likely French as the
community is very large)

+Bjoern will discuss this with Rob in Munich

+Number of Old Untouched Bugs Climbing (well over 700)
+Is there a need to do a mass FDO status change for old bugs
that have not been touched for a long period of time?

+Punted for next time, we will all think of possible solutions

*Triaging
+Stats
+Joel showed Wiki page, everyone will think about useful stats
for marketing

+Volunteers
+Ideas to grow community, triaging is really easy step for
users to become contributors

+BSA – invite to join/participate after submitting bug
+Joel Bjoern will look into this
+http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57199
+Twitter Feed
+Look into expanding twitter stuff that Bjoern has already done
+Needs admin involved as we'll need another email
+Discuss in Munich
+Wiki
+Really really simple wiki page (3-4 points) with the
simplified “how to triage”

+Joel will do this
+Realistic Goals
+Get ESC involved in some kind of “what's currently being
worked on”
+Goal would be to have triagers/users experiment with these
features before release

+Punt until after 4.0 release

*Release 4.0 To Do
+QA/Todo rename 3.7 to 4.0
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Todo_rename_3.7_to_4.0
+Everyone will look at this and see if there is anything they
can help with or other things that need to be done

+We will merge 3.7 4.0 master in FDO

*Agenda Minutes
+Automate agenda and minutes through IRC bot
+Going to try in the next meeting, Joel and Bjoern will play
around with options before meeting
+Florian – Good for democratic process of LibreOffice, anyone
can add to agenda,etc...
+Possibility to automatically add to wiki through bot – Joel
likes this

*Hard Hacks
+Everyone will get 1 additional proposed hard hack on the wiki by
next meeting

*Next Meeting Date/Time
+November 30^th ^, 2012, 1400 UTC

*End Time: 1510 UTC

Blocker Bug -- Bug 50430 - FILEOPEN: Can't Open/Save in OUP-format

Can someone take a look at this one? I put my rationale why I placed as a
blocker, saving in OUP format creates a completely unusable file but the
user doesn't know this until they try to reopen the file. Seems like it's
been around awhile also.

track down where the variable is being set, ultimately I want to track it
down but at least I have a successful build.

So where *is* that location then? Links like https://bugs.launchpad.net/
 **ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/**366728https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/366728
LD_LIBRARY_PATH not loading from .profile nor /etc/environment indicate
that setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH in ~/.profile etc. is effectively ignored
(which is OK in our case, where we strive for an unset LD_LIBRARY_PATH),
but I'm still clueless what causes LD_LIBRARY_PATH to be set for you.

So that's the bug. Having LD_LIBRARY_PATH set globally (esp. to a
directory ld-linux.so would consult anyway) is rather silly. Given that
you did not add this setting yourself, I suggest you track down the place
where it is set now (this could be different files depending on which shell
you use; for bash, e.g., all of /etc/profile, ~/.bash_profile, and
~/.bashrc, plus any files sourced from there would be suspects) and hunt
down the alleged reason for that...

Could it be because I have LibO 3.6.1.2 installed also? I just realized
that I've never had a parallel install before. I used to do all my
developing/triaging on a separate boot but I decided I am tired of
rebooting every time I want to get into my main distro.

That could explain why you didn't experience the problem before, even if
you already had that strange LD_LIBRARY_PATH setting. But the root problem
 is the LD_LIBRARY_PATH setting.

It seems like my grep is just failing completely.wth is going on. When

impossible as it's searching through a lot of stuff.

Shell /bin/bash

I'm reading from here:

Apparently in Ubuntu you can't set these in .profile or .bashrc.

That command is just looking (non-recursively) through the files in your
home dir whose names start with ., so it is OK if it is fast.

  Shell /bin/bash

PhD Candidate Asking for New (2 years) Developers for Survey on LibO

2012-10-22 Thread Joel Madero
Hi All,

This is a tad bit off base, so I'll apologize for that in advance.

We have a user who is a PhD candidate and is doing several papers on FLOSS.
Currently he's collecting data and is on LibreOffice development. He's
looking for volunteers to fill out a survey (hoping for at least 20-30).
The survey takes about 20 minutes, is quite straight forward and the only
requirement is that you have contributed for 2 years counting both LibO
and OOo time.

If you're interested please just respond to this and I'll pass on your info
to the person running the survey. If you want to just directly do the
survey you can find it here:

https://limesurvey.sim.vuw.ac.nz/index.php?sid=14153lang=en

I think that this would be really good for us, when he starts publishing
he'll keep us informed and it could go in some of our press releases.

3.6.2

2012-10-18 Thread Joel Madero
Hi All,

Thread started on tdf discuss list that is asking why 3.6.2 isn't showing
here: http://www.libreoffice.org/download

It's still only showing on the pre-release page. It was my understanding
that 3.6.2 is final.

Also is it correct that we had 3.6.2.1 RC and now it's 3.6.2.2 final? There
is no 3.6.2.0 release? Just trying to understand the naming convention.

Included main mailing list and qa list

Build Error

2012-10-18 Thread Joel Madero

Hi All,

I hadn't pulled in awhile (4 weeks), decided to yesterday, it failed,
decided to start from scratch -- for a few reasons. Still getting the error:

Oh dear - something failed during the build - sorry !

For more help with debugging build errors, please see the section in:

http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development

internal build errors:

ERROR: error 512 occurred while making /data/git/libo/sal/prj

it seems that the error is inside 'sal', please re-run build

inside this module to isolate the error and/or test your fix:

build_error.log should contain the captured output of the failed module(s)

---

To rebuild a specific module:

make sal.clean # optional

make sal

when the problem is isolated and fixed, re-run 'make'

make[1]: *** [build-packimages] Error 1

make[1]: Leaving directory `/data/git/libo'

make: *** [all] Error 2

BSA + New Wiki = No Good

2012-10-18 Thread Joel Madero

Hi All,

Someone else (can't remember who) talked to me earlier in IRC and told
me that they had permissions to update BSA site but that make was
failing and spitting out errors about the new wiki. I haven't confirmed
this as I don't want to break anything but, can someone else with
permissions see if they can reproduce?

Including Florian on this one since he's in charge of the wiki update.

New Easy Hack Tracking System -- Developer Input Required

2012-10-15 Thread Joel Madero
Hi All,

I think this is the easiest way to keep track of bugs that QA thinks easy
hack is appropriate but that we don't have the programming skills to direct
users to appropriate code or assign a developer to mentor the bug fixer
as they try to tackle these easy hacks. This will help us move more bugs
into easy hack status but requires both QA and developers to keep track of
the list. Looking for feedback

[TRIAGE] Weekly Update

2012-10-15 Thread Joel Madero
Stats for unconfirmed bugs, numbers are going up and this isn't good. Link
to spreadsheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApS-XtOUGGH5dDIwaXN1YnNsM0h4RXFKdVhvb2RRb0E#gid=1

Numbers:

Date|| Number of Unconfirmed Bugs 30 Days Old|| Average Length of Days
Since Opened|| Average Length of time Since Last Change|| Median Length
of Days Since Opened || Median Length of time Since Last Change

4/9/2012  ||  893||  100||  64||  87||  52

10/9/2012||  845||  103||  65||  86||  50

17/9/2012||  847||  102||  62||  81||  44

15/10/2012||  1097||  111||  78||69||  52

Still trying to figure out easiest way to report these numbers as some
without HTML email have said legibility is an issue. Summary is almost
every metric is up (# of bugs up almost 200 which is the most concerning)

Developer Input - FDO#30671 - slide transitions appears to use GL_DOUBLE vertices

2012-10-15 Thread Joel Madero
This is one of our oldest unconfirmed bugs (2 years!). I think we need
developer input on it as it's not clear if the user's point has any real
impact on the project. Can one of you check it out and let me know if we
can close it or move it forward as a confirmed bug (seems more like
enhancement though)

Re: New Easy Hack Tracking System -- Developer Input Required

2012-10-15 Thread Joel Madero
i'm happy with that as well. Our team needs to commit more to adding that
status as frequently as possible. We've been specifically requested by the
devs to be on the lookout for easy hacks. I'll add proposedeasyhack to
those few and remove the wiki entry. I'll let them know at our next call
that we're going to be more aggressive at putting this whiteboard status.

Thanks for the communication. Not sure if you noticed but the google doc is
updated, your section is now fresh and ready to be tackled.

Sure?

Isn't it just the maximum number of bugs bugzilla lets you export in a normal
query?

;-)

AFAIR I counted ~14k Bugs a couple of days ago.
yes yes ;) I did notice that when I saw the latest one in May. So, we

Isn't it just the maximum number of bugs bugzilla lets you export in a normal

AFAIR I counted ~14k Bugs a couple of days ago.
yes yes ;) I did notice that when I saw the latest one in May. So, we
hit 10,000 in May :) and nowhopefully our next milestone is we
fixed 10,000 bugs :)

[Libreoffice-qa] fdo#33302 Hard Hack + proposed change to process

2012-10-05 Thread Joel Madero
I'm cleaning up and adding fixed hard hacks to the wiki and this mac one is
annoying me :) I think we should have a policy that if the hard hack isn't
accepted by a developer within 1 month, we should move it either a) back to
proposed or b) to a new category of need a volunteer, currently pending
or some other such status. I think the idea of hard hacks should be fast
paced, where users can expect if the bug is on the list, it's going to get
fixed. Otherwise it has the potential of sitting on the list for much too
long and just cluttering an otherwise really stream lined process.

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33302

Any thoughts?

Joel

[TRIAGE] Weekly Update

2012-10-03 Thread Joel Madero
Hi All,

Here are the stats from this week, we are clearly showing a down trend and
need more people to consistently get involved. Average bug length is up to
almost 4 months since open date and is almost 3 months since last change to
bug (comment, etc). If we could get 20 people to commit to JUST
CONFIRMING (no backtrace, no logs -- just verify that you see the bug and
mark as NEW with a quick comment) 10 bugs a week we would be in much better
shape. Confirming most bugs takes no more than 3-5 minutes.

Proper function is supposed to turn a text string into it's proper form
which is a capitalized first letter for each word. So:

this is a bad sentence -- turns into -- This Is A Bad Sentence

Imagine a book title or the name of a proper noun. So, don't mess with me
should be Don't Mess With Me (I know weird example).

Strange that you can't reproduce, I'm able to, wonder if it's a
localization issue?

 My problem is

 1. I don't know what's meant by the 'Proper' function, and
 2. Assuming that this is an auto-correct issue, I can't reproduce this (on
 Linux, using the development build).

But, I just found out that MS Excel has the same problem, this shouldn't be
the case so they have the same bug ;) If this is working as planned the
plan isn't good as no one could ever possibly want a capitalized letter
after an apostrophe

Nah, some can take way longer ;) I appreciate that you're tackling these
ones that require a lot more work :)

Just over a week ago I tried to confirm fdo#37641 By using Rowset I
get not full result[1], and I have worked myself into a
state--hopefilly a temporary state--of discouragement. Along the way,
I have filed two new bugs[2,3]. (The last of these clearly needs more
information, but I have no idea about how to collect that info.
Big sigh.) This is not good for the stats; I have to struggle to
maintain my belief that it is good for the project.

Stats are just stats, the end goal is to make users happy and make the
whole process more efficient, I think what you're doing is good :) If you
know that it needs more info but you're not sure how to get that info, just
throw it in the comment of the bug so people know where the bug stands.

  110 66 82 46 3/10/2012 909 113 66 81 48

Hmm, that looks funny in the text version of your message. Here is
what I take from it ...

Date Number of Unconfirmed Bugs 30 Days Old
Average Length of Days Since Opened
Average Length of time Since Last Change
Median Length of Days Since Opened
Median Length of time Since Last Change
 4/9/2012 893 100 64 87 52
10/9/2012 845 103 65 86 50
17/9/2012 847 102 62 81 44
24/9/2012 890 110 66 82 46
3/10/2012 909 113 66 81 48

I'll make a cleaner version next week, that was a direct copy/paste from a
spreadsheet. Basically, unconfirmed bugs older than 30 days are up to 909
(almost a hundred more than a month ago). This isn't good at all and we
need to keep looking for more people to help.

[Libreoffice-qa] Hard Hacks Wiki

2012-10-02 Thread Joel Madero
Hi All,

I've created a hard hacks wiki where we can keep track of proposed hard
hacks and then have an easy to go to list to discuss during our conference
calls. Here is the link:

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/HardHacks

Feel free to add bugs immediately to the proposed list.

I am just about done with the new triage wiki, once it's done I'll make
sure to link them.

I know that we need more easy hacks, this one clearly qualifies but I
don't have the time right now to find relevant code to point to and act
as a go to for anyone who chooses to pick this one up. Can someone take
a look at it real quick and see if you can point to the right files and

[Libreoffice-qa] [TRIAGE] Weekly Update

2012-09-24 Thread Joel Madero
#'s were down this week but we've recruited a few new people to help out so
hopefully we see an increase in activity in the next week. Date Number
of Unconfirmed Bugs 30 Days Old Average Length of Days Since Opened Average
Length of time Since Last Change Median Length of Days Since Opened Median
Length of time Since Last Change 4/9/2012 893 100 64 87 52 10/9/2012 845
103 65 86 50 17/9/2012 847 102 62 81 44 24/9/2012 890 110 66 82 46
We've seen in increase in every category (no good).

I am a bit concerned that our # of bugs from 2011 jumped a lot, I'm not
sure if there's a bug with FDO - before I think we had 11 bugs from 2011,
now we have a lot more than that.

Can we get a volunteer to tackle these triages (all from BASIC):

[Libreoffice-qa] Call for Hard Hacks

2012-09-24 Thread Joel Madero
Hi All,

Weekly call for hard hacks. If you have time to go through confirmed bugs
(NEW status on FDO) and you come across one that is:
a) relatively hard to fix
b) could affect a lot of people
c) could make LibO look really bad

Please send me the FDO# by Wed. so I can get the list together for Thursday.

Regards,
Joel

Dialogs - Why so Inconsistent

2012-09-19 Thread Joel Madero
Hi All,

I'm browsing through the code for a few dialogs and I'm seeing a ridiculous
amount of inconsistencies, the programming styles are just so different
that it makes it hard to efficiently work on them. A couple that can be
seen:

optgdlg (cui)
optload (sw)
optdlg (sw)
optjava (cui)

Even simple things like position are handled different, some define columns
as COL and then use those in the src file while others directly put in
positions (X,Y).

My questions are:

1. Is this okay?
2. Is this efficient?
3. Out of the dialogs, which has the best methodology and then maybe I'l
slowly start cleaning the others to be similar to the best one

Triaging Party

2012-09-19 Thread Joel Madero
Hi All,

I wanted to first say thanks to everyone who has contributed to the
triaging project. I'm still hopeful that we can get this done but we're
going to have to start actively trying to grow our QA membership. I've had
relative success in #libreoffice just casually asking if there are any
users who want to help out - I think I've gotten 2 or 3 people who have.
This being said, if you have any recommendations for someone I can try to
convince to help out, please let me know (or ask them). Our #'s aren't
growing which is good, but at this point they aren't shrinking much either
(steady at 850ish bugs that are 30 days unconfirmed). Goal is still to
have this down to 0 by the end of the year.

I was hoping that each of the people who have added their name to the
triaging spreadsheet could join a triaging party in the next 2-3 weeks.
My time zone becomes an issue but I'm willing to do the weekend or even
really late evening my time zone.

Also hoping that devs and other QA people subscribed to the mailing list
will volunteer to help out.

I won't be doing it unless we can at least get 10 people committed, without
this number it's likely to not be very functional. I'm hoping for a 1 - 2
hour commitment.

Please respond proposing if you'd be willing to help, if I get at least 10
responses I'll set up a doodle to arrange a time.

Best Regards,
Joel

[Libreoffice-qa] Call for Hard Hacks

2012-09-19 Thread Joel Madero
Hi All,

Sorry for the late notice but this is a call for hard hacks. If you have
one please reply. Hard hack should be:

1. Relatively hard ;)

2. The more users affected the better

3. CONFIRMED (please, no unconfirmed bugs)

4. If there is an included backtrace in fdo that is a +

Please don't just repeat most annoying bugs, although those can be
candidates. I need a couple by tomorrow if possible, so if you have a bit
of time to look at confirmed bugs and find a couple that you think
are interesting, difficult, etc... send the fdo# my way with a link to it
and I'll take a look :)

FDO Permissions

2012-09-17 Thread Joel Madero
Hi All,

I know that this is a touchy subject and needs a lot of discussion but, how
difficult is it to make it so you need permissions to change priority and
severity of a bug? My goal is to at least kind of deal with priorities in
the coming months but it's pretty much impossible if a regular user can go
in and set a bug as CRITICAL - HIGHEST because of a minor alignment issue
-- and this is pretty common. I think we should start discussing if it's
time to close off certain things in FDO to regular users and start talking
about who gets permissions to do these. My suggestion is upon request a
user gets permissions, most users won't take this step just to up the
priority of their own bug and it won't be harmful to have 10's or 100's of
users with permissions to prioritize/triage/etcIf a user takes the time
to say hey, I'd like permissions on FDO, they are probably at least 50/50
likely to prioritize right.

Re: FDO Permissions

2012-09-17 Thread Joel Madero
What about adding some kind of whiteboard status (I knowmorenot
good), that is like verified and prioritized by a member of QA, then in
the future when we're cleaning the NEW bugs and prioritizing them we know
when an experienced user has already done the triaging (vs. the user just
trying to get us to look at their minor bug faster).

Joel

Heh ;+) in that case they need a support contract clearly ;-)

My suspicion is that the other freedesktop projects would hate

 rather difficult to fix.

Hence the most-annoying tracker for 'blockers' and so on - I guess
 we
could introduce other trackers for important-but-not-MAB type things

Re: FDO Permissions

2012-09-17 Thread Joel Madero
Apologies in advance about not including Julien's message, I'm still not
quite sure how to deal with direct email response vs. nabble response so
here is my response to not needing it.

I agree right now there isn't truly a need but as we grow I think that
recognizing who is QA and who isn't will become an issue. I've been
actively and aggressively seeking new QA members and I can say for sure
there are at least 2-3 who have either already started basic triaging or
have shown serious interest. There are also cases where I'm not quite sure
if a user is QA or not (the most notable here is Sasha something who I see
ALL THE TIME in FDO but I never can figure out his role)

Maybe...just maybewe can just start using the QA Assigned to? I don't
see the need quite yet but I see that as a potential solution. This way we
can also have a really clear list of who is triaging -- this will also make
future bug triaging parties and other mass QA events much easier to
coordinate with a list of email addresses and names who have helped in the
past X months.

My two cents. Happy Monday everyone.

Best Regards,
Joel
