Re: Playing ping pong with ODF version; does it pose a danger to the end user.
Thanks for the feedback Regina & Thorsten. Well, given the information in the replies and what I've seen anecdotally I feel prepared to field questions if they come up. BTW I added OnlyOffice into the mix last night. It behaves pretty much as MSO 365 when handling these 1.3 files. Playing ping pong with ODF version; does it pose a danger to the end user.
Howdy, Recently I exchanged a few documents between a number of ODF editors: LO 7.1 (all documents were created here with default settings) Google Docs Microsoft Office 365 Apache OpenOffice In the case of all Google and MSO the files open up without any kind of warning about the ODF version being 1.3. AOO (4.1.10 RC2) offers a rather poorly worded warning. So far I have noticed no obvious loss of features, but I assume there must be some, somewhere. When I save from Google or MS or AOO the ODF version is dropped down to 1.2, silently. Open it again in LO 7.1 and it is quiet, edit and save it and it is quietly moved back up to ODF 1.3. So, I was wondering if this is a potential problem for the end users and if so should we recommend that they change from the new default in LO of ODF 1.43 (a non standard) back to 1.2 if they are expecting to share for editing with other editors? Calc Solvers Info Doc/wiki page Re: Calc solvers - what to say in the Calc Guide
Howdy, Adding The Documentation ML to the thread. Quick recap for the folks on the list: Currently the LibreOffice wiki includes under the FAQs section a question on Calc Solvers. https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Faq/Calc/109 The answer in the second sentence, for languages other then French, refer the user back to the AOO wiki for information specific to the NLSolver extension from Sun Microsystems. That answer page also refers the user to API information via the AOO SDK. The French language answer points to a copy (it appears) of that page translated to French but hosted on the LibreOffice wiki. So - drafted a LibreOffice specific version of the information found on the AOO wiki. This draft adds information to cover the five solver engines which ship with the TDF baseline LibreOffice code (including the coming 7.0). The latest update to the draft https://nextcloud.documentfoundation.org/s/ebisHjZo2rowM4Q There is one final change I'd like to make and that is the example; I would like to switch the basic code out for an example that uses the spreadsheet and model used in the data analytics section of the Calc Guide. I'll be working on that tonight. Otherwise - any review of the current state of the document is most welcome. At the moment the file is in my private storage space on the NC server; I would prefer to move it to the shared documentation folder but wasn't sure where to put it? Re: Calc solvers - what to say in the Calc Guide
Great - well for now we can use an odt file to draft the content. Added this section for COINMP in Solvers section: --- CoinMP The CoinMP optimizer is an open source solver, it is part of the COIN-OR project which is an initiative to spur the development of open-source software for the operations research community. CoinMP at present is a linear and integer optimizer. Algorithmic Features COIN-OR is a large group of projects ranging from linear to nonlinear programming right through to heuristic and modelling interfaces, CoinMP is integrates the COIN's CLP (linear programming), CBC (Branch and Cut library) and CGL (Cut Generation library) libraries into one easy to use tool. Thus CoinMP can solve linear programming problems accessing the functionality embedded in the CLP library, solve integer and mixed integer programming problems utilizing the algorithmic features of both the CBC and CGL libraries. -- https://nextcloud.documentfoundation.org/s/ebisHjZo2rowM4Q has been updated with the change and that pdf file has the .odt embedded in it BTW. I could sure use feedback on that added text from more technical folks. Re: Calc solvers - what to say in the Calc Guide
HI, Well, I noticed something aside from the Guide and that is the FAQ over on the wiki. https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Faq/Calc/109/fr Now, it turns out that the French version of that FAQ points to a page (first link on the page) on the TDF wiki but none of the other languages do. They point back to the AOO wiki and on that wiki page it has links to things like extensions LibreOffice doesn't need and API documentation in AOO SDK. So - I thought why not steal the content from the AOO page as a start of a TDF page (or PDF maybe ;-). I did that and then I updated a few things in it. Not done updating things, but done for tonight. You can review a draft of this https://nextcloud.documentfoundation.org/s/ebisHjZo2rowM4Q Can see some easy edits in the top part of the text and I need to ask for help filling in the information for scripting as needed for the additional algorithm engines in LO - for one thing maybe a bit more. Anyway, any feedback is welcome. Will post tomorrow when those changes are made. Re: Calc solvers - what to say in the Calc Guide
This is an interesting point of differentiation. Reviewing some of the tools yesterday and this morning; AOO with 1 solver engine in default install (4.2 pre-release binary); OnlyOffice (latest desktop Linux binary) has no Solver equivalent in either the desktop binary or the cloud version, not that I can find (didn't see any in the available plug-ins, but maybe their is something behind the paywall areas). WSP (May 2020 release) includes only one, a simplex linear solver. MS 365 and Google Sheets both require an plug-in, Frontline Systems Inc looks to be the leading supplier for both tools, but there are multiple other choices for each. Looking at this the first couple sentences, "The standard Microsoft Excel Solver uses a basic implementation of the primal Simplex method to solve LP problems. It is limited to 200 decision variables.", from this web page https://www.solver.com/linear-quadratic-technology and thinking that we should be able to run down answers to some of the bounds information for the different engines also. Below are the different options sets for the engines. Most specifically give bounds (ie Epsilon Level), but a few don't (ie Learning Cycles); I don't know if it would be worth it to get those numbers or not. I think it is worth it to, per engine, list these in the guide/help file. Well here is something Looking at the help file for version 7 https://help.libreoffice.org/7.0/en-US/text/scalc/01/solver.html?=CALC=UNIX the final text box states that 'only linear solvers are in the default installation'. However 7.0 Alpha1 build adds a choice of, 'LibreOfficeDev Swarm non-linear Solver (experimental)' for an engine. So, assuming that engine ships with 7 the text box in the help file could go. Re: Calc solvers - what to say in the Calc Guide
Tonight took the LO 7 alpha1 file and the one example workbook from that Excel tutorial and ran each of the five solver engines. For sure the LO CoinMP and LO Linear choices are crazy faster then DEPS and SCO (The firth choice Swarm non-linear is just as quick but the results are kaka, but it does say it is experimental). Re: Calc solvers - what to say in the Calc Guide
hmm - there are bits and pieces here and there. For example the first two choices (DEPS & SCO) have some explanation over at AOO wiki https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/NLPSolver If that is still relevant for LibreOffice I can't say, but likely. CoinMD (which I assume here is type of Coin-MP) has a lot of generalized references, even a wiki page with a paragraph or two that might be worth drafting for service here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COIN-OR anyway - I'm just using DDG to search for info on the different solver types, and you get the idea. There is a couple of examples of tutorials the reference solvers in Calc (one of which actually uses the same example data to show how to solve both in Excel and Calc), but the couple I reviewed only use one as an example. I did find one for Excel that has an over view which I thought was a decent balance of information on the three solver models available there at: https://www.tutorialspoint.com/excel_data_analysis/advanced_data_analysis_optimization_with_excel_solver.htm IDK if any of the helps, hope it does. Re: Fwd: [libreoffice-documentation] Multi-threading in Calc
Also - I read in a couple of places online that if you have OpenCL support enabled then the CPU threading stops. I can't test that to see if it is true because I can't seem to get OpenCL to work on this Linux desktop. Trying it on a Windows machine should answer that question. Re: Fwd: [libreoffice-documentation] Multi-threading in Calc
To follow up on that. Using LO 6.4 & 7.0 pre-release build on Ubuntu. Recalculating one of the OpenCL test xls files just now. Starting up with a command line MAX_CONCURRENCY=0 ./soffice Does turn the CPU threading off. Restarting with a command line MAX_CONCURRENCY=4 ./soffice Turns it back on (for my AMD a5800 processor this will give me two threads, because while the CPU is called a 4 core processor and it does have 4 accumulators it only has 2 floatingpoint cores and this is the limiting factor it seems) with recalculation time for the workbook is ~2x faster. Re: Fwd: [libreoffice-documentation] Multi-threading in Calc
BTW I'm copying a paragraph from an email on a different list. "Also - if you set MAX_CONCURRENCY=16 - or somesuch (ie. twice your number of threads) - you may be able to defeat the hyper-threaded halving, and see if this workload happens to be one that does better with hyper-threading than without."M.M. It might be worth mentioning the MAX_CURRENCY setting for controlling CPU thread usage. Also, I wonder if the folks answering could answer one other question: Does LibreOffice OnLine also use cpu threading in the same way it does when run for desktop or headless? It would be with noting in the documentation if it does not, IMO. Re: How do I get rid of this error? Macro file requires OpenOffice but I would like to use Libreoffice
Actually as I think about it. Isn't one of the differences between AOO and LO that AOO creates a new calc file with multiple sheets and LO creates a new calc file with only one sheet. I don't think you can remove that last sheet, so perhaps that is it. A test should tell on that also. Interesting. Just did a search in the issue tracking system and there is an open issue regarding RemoveByName, but in a different context. Taking a quick look at that function and where it is called from it seems a quick test using a copy of that function should be a fairly quick exercise. Before I try that though, just to be sure; This basic module is embedded in the Calc file, yes? Re: Create my own function in Libreoffice Writer
Howdy, For a first start I'd recommend you grab a copy of the Writer Guide (6.0 is the latest of today) here: https://documentation.libreoffice.org/assets/Uploads/Documentation/en/WG6.0/WG60-WriterGuideLO.pdf Jump to Chapter 21 which covers basics of how to customize both menus and toolbars. If you are planning to run some type of script or macro from a menu and looking for documentation I'd recommend downloading First I'd recommend you download and install the LibreOffice SDK (software developers kit) for the documentation of the LibreOffice API, all of the scripting languages make use this API. This documentation becomes more valuable as you get further into a project so I'd strongly recommend it. Downloading that the SDK should match the version of the LibreOffice installed, if it either 6.4.x or 6.3.x then you find that right on the download page today: https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/ if your version is older you need to get it differently, just ask back here. OK so if the built in Basic sounds good, this reference sheet: https://documentation.libreoffice.org/assets/Uploads/Documentation/en/MACROS/RefCards/LibOBasic-2-Overview-Flat-Letter-EN-v110.pdf as a start There are other choices for scripting, such as Python and you can find information on that here; https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Macros/Python_Design_Guide Hope that helps, Drew On Mon, Mar 2, 2020 at 7:33 PM meo meo wrote: > Hello Libreoffice Writer experts > > I want to create some functions of Libreoffice Writer (such as Labels, > Bussiness Card, Templates) in File->New sub-menu to add into my own > sub-menu in File menu. Re: Open Source Hackathon Mentorship Invitation
Hello Misha, First I would like to thank you for taking the time to reach out to the community here. The work you are doing seems quite exciting and certainly appears to fit well with the goals of The Document Foundation. I suspect the biggest hurdle at the moment is time, or lack thereof, with regards to this years HackIllinios event. What I would like to propose is to set about working towards having a mentor at the 2021 event, giving time to both recruit a developer and to look at what coding projects would fit well with both your students and the LibreOffice code base. On the subject of coding projects I noted in reviewing the previous work done at the HackIllinios events there seems to be strong use of Python for projects. LibreOffice is predominantly written in C++ but also supports the ability to integrate extensions to the application using python as the development language and perhaps that is something which could fit well here. Of course someone may yet jump in here regarding this years event, but should that not happen, what I would like to do is to add your event to the community calendar so that next year the effort on our side can begin earlier. Best wishes for the success of this years event. Problem launching latest dev build of LO7
Howdy, Running Ubuntu 18.04 (64bit) with LIBC_2.27 installed from the OS repo. Was successfully running Version: 7.0.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: 4ff12ba6f4639c73587f2bb58afcc3ca6fb30105 CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 4.15; UI render: default; VCL: kf5; TinderBox: Linux-rpm_deb-x86_64@86-TDF, Branch:master, Time: 2020-01-24_21:09:14 Today I grabbed the latest binary from the dev server, tinderbox: Linux-archive-x86_64@80-updater Current; dated today. Unable to start the binary, a series of "can not find LIBC_2.29" and 2.30 in terminal. The last full error reported is: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.30' not found (required by /home/drew/Downloads/lo7/LibreOfficeDev_7.0.0.0.alpha0_Linux_x86-64_archive/program/libuno_sal.so.3) Reported on the IRC QA channel and was informed this build is reported as running on the gandalf server. LibreOffice and old Microsoft Binary file formats.
Howdy, Today I worked with 5 different word processors (LibreOffice 6.4, OnlyOffice 5.2, MS Word web, LibreOffice online and Google Docs, all current and in use in the wild. Of those 5 only one still allows the user to save files in the old Microsoft Binary version. In fact the other 4, including MS Word in the web (via onedrive) will open old MS binary formats but if you edit the file then you can only save it back as the newer iso standard OOXML format. I think that is a good thing as it helps get rid of old binary format files. The 1 which will allow a save in the binary format is LibreOffice. Now IDK but wouldn't be surprised if MSO desktop still supports a save to the binary format, but at least in the web version of the application that option is gone. I'm just wondering if maybe LibreOffice should also look at dropping write support for those binary formats, at least in the online versions. It seems to me a good thing to do. Well, Wikisteff, on Twitter, with the "25th order Runge-kutta integrator in Excel without using VB" (To be honest I don't really know what that is ;-/) test file responded to the thank you with; "I, for one, cannot wait for more multicore/GPU. Libre is a fantastic product, and I would be happy to share my sheets, such as they are, with them." So, question for the list; Take him up on the offer? GPU optimization feedback (I hope ;-)
Howdy, Thought I'd pass on a twitter exchange, to the list here, between myself and Wikisteff regarding another attempt to benchmark some of the changes to Calc recently. Wikisteff: "Oh, yeah! I wrote a 25th order Runge-Kutta integrator in Excel without using VB as well." Wikisteff: "Well, it *was* part of a head-to-head test to see how GPU parallel evaluation of floating-point code worked in practice on @LibreOffice Calc. @MSExcel was the control. ;)" Me: "I would love to see results from a GPU parallel evaluation of floating-point code comparison between Calc and Excel. Is that available somewhere? thanks." Wikisteff: "I didn't publish my results, but they amounted to "if the calculation is simple, like a uniform linear transformation or a matrix multiplication, high speedup. If the calculation is nonroutine, like a nonlinear transform interwoven with large matrix products, no speedup." Anyway, I haven't replied on twitter yet, will in a minute or two and thank him for his time and that piece of feedback. Personally I don't know if any of that is useful as feedback, hope so. Base without HSQL support?
Howdy, I'm just going to jump into it. If the question is; should Base not include the HSQL driver in the 6.3 release I would say no. Should Firebird Embedded SDBC be the default selection for new Base files, I'm agnostic. But Yes to include it as an option (without needing experimental mode). Here is a 2:40 video of why. https://us.hostiso.cloud/index.php/s/HZLHLzeW4LBa5wi tl/dw; Some simple features still don't work with parts of firebird sdbc. Should the Migration Assistant be enabled by default yes, but the default button on the Dialog box which opens when the connection to an HSQL datasource is created stays No. I would recommend an enhancement which is to include a URL to a TDF wiki page (with the page setup for translation/NL support) which covers Why it should be done now, and how to perform a migration both with the Migration Assistant and without. Right now if the ODB file with HSQL does not have any of the following data types, decimal, numeric, Image(Blob), Date, Time or TIMESTAMP, the data transfer will succeed. How many odb files would have one or more of those IDK but guessing it would be a fair percentage. Here is the real problem though, imo, right now with 6.3 if you try to import any external source into decimal and numeric fields with Firebird there is an issue. If you drag drop a table from any Base file type or from Calc or import a text file as CSV. The Date, time, TIMESTAMP and Boolean fields in Firebird also have some issues with the those Import Wizard functions, but less extreme in that the import function is more restrictive on what is recognized as valid input compared to the Import Wizard when using the HSQL sdbc. More so however there are still prickly issues with Wizards and Designers (query, form, report) still not fully functional, or working properly, with Firebird sdbc. So what I really think should be considered is to focus any developer resources for the 6.3 release first on pushing the firebird sdbc much closer to feature parity with the HSQL regarding how much of the Base UI functions properly with the sdbc, even if that means there is no further work on Migration Assistant before the 6.3 release. I think that if the project really wants to be aggressive on ditching HSQL, as with 6.4, then right now and thru to the 6.4 release there should be a TDF emphasize on getting people to make the migration from HSQL odb files. Either to Firebird embedded or an external data base. This would require work from documentation folks (creating a tutorial, updating a wiki page or online help and marketing folks to generate awareness and urgency. There are advantages to actively pushing people to do this now while there is both HSQL and Firebird in the LibreOffice package. Those advantages however require that the current Import Wizard (drag drop of tables) would work, right now all data types can move via the IW routines from a Firebird sdbc file to a HSQLdb sdbc file BTW, but not back the other way. Anyway, that is my two cents worth of opinion on how it is at the moment. Re: Bug 122675 MySQL native connector problem with LO 6.2.0.2
also from the MySQL documentation there is the option to reconfigure the server to use the older default authentication: "Further, it is always possible to change ––default-authentication-plugin to a non-default value of your choice (At present, options other than caching_sha2_password are: mysql_native_password and sha256_password). For example, if ––default-authentication-plugin is set to mysql_native_password, the behavior of the MySQL 8.0.4 server is similar to MySQL 8.0.3 and prior. Correspondingly, libmysqlclient supports the MYSQL_DEFAULT_AUTH options for mysql_options() C API function. (For libmysqlclient based client tools available in MySQL packages, the ––default-auth command-line options achieves the same purpose.) The client-side option is a performance tool and saves an extra round-trip when used in tandem with ––default-authentication-plugin option on server side. However, we recommend use of caching_sha2_password because of the enhanced security that it offers. We also recommend updating libmysqlclient to MySQL 8.0.4 or later so that new default authentication plugin is supported by clients that use it." https://mysqlserverteam.com/mysql-8-0-4-new-default-authentication-plugin-caching_sha2_password/ On Sat, Jan 12, 2019 at 1:11 PM Drew Jensen wrote: > Howdy Dan, > > Some information on the problem and work around can be found here: > https://tableplus.io/blog/2018/07/failed-to-load-caching-sha2-password-authentication-plugin-solved.html > > The issue was opened by another person yesterday and this issue was lined > to it. > > Drew > > On Sat, Jan 12, 2019 at 12:23 PM Dan Lewis > wrote: > >> I get the following error message when using the Base Wizard in LO >> 6.2.0.2 to connect to a MySQL database. >> >>Can't initialize character set unknown (path: compiled_in) >> >> I get as far as clicking the the Test Connection button. Re: Minutes from the UX/design meeting 2018-Dec-06
I was just now looking at this using the tabbed notebook interface (though I'm running the 6.3Alpha0 build, so maybe there is some difference there from 6.2) and I see that the different places where the header/footer dialog is available already enables or disables depending on what was selected in the page format dialog. Given that the page format button is next to the header/footer button it becomes a visual clue that when you disable them in the page format dialog and return to the main window the h/f dialog button is immediately disabled. Plus it is good to see that both the page format and header/footer dialog is available during print preview, which is where one can notice that it is or isn't there, right. My question Is; Will this change in menus to happen in the 6.2 release? Re: How to Build LO Eclipse
Howdy Shobhan, First, a little embarrassed that I somehow skipped visually what was there for instructions. Not sure I understand about the python project, that is the only reason I cloned the repository https://github.com/LibreOffice/loeclipse was to pickup the python support. There was no python folder created at that time, so maybe I did something wrong right there. Is there a different repository? Anyway, imported the source into eclipse (committer-photon june 2018) and I've tried building with ant outside eclipse. (not sure that it matters but for the LibreOffice installation I'm using the 6.2 master daily build and sdk) So far no love from either build, but down to only a few errors when done inside Eclipse (4 total); outside using ANT many more. Anyway, thanks for the response, it was a needed gentle slap on the back of the head ;-0 Will get back into later today and see if I can't get it all worked out. If really get stuck I'll ask more. should probably also add. I already cloned the git repository locally. Now I'm reading over a generic article on how to build a Eclipse extension and maybe this is the answer to my question. How to build LO Eclipse.
Howdy, Over at https://github.com/LibreOffice/loeclipse the installation instructions are to use the Eclipse Marketplace. Currently the source has been updated from the recent GSOC project to add python support and I would like to give that a shot. Are there any instructions for building the Eclipse addon directly from the source. I've looked a bit for such and didn't find any, which of course doesn't mean they aren't somewhere. Re: License information for extensions on LO's extension site
Hola, Just curious if the Templates will also require a license to be eligible for the TDF site. Today: - some don't declare a license on the website page. - some state a license on the website page -- some include a license declaration inside the template file. some of these do so in the file properties some do so with comments in embedded script libraries some which state a license on the web site do neither Particularly in the case of templates with embedded scripts is not the license not valid if the user is not forced to agree to it? If the extension must ask the user(s) to accept the developers license on install to be eligible for the TDF extensions site then why not the templates? -- granted there is no standard way to that during first use, but the website could require they check a box as agreement with the license before allowing them to download the file. Seems like the two parts of the site would be consistent if possible. Thanks much for you efforts and time. Best wishes Drew - This morning I downloaded a few. [Libreoffice-qa] How it went with one of the files used in last weeks bug hunting session
Howdy Tamás, list; Last weekend during the 6.1 bug hunting session I prattled on, over on the QA irc channel, about running the base migration assistant against an odb file holding ~318 thousand records in an embedded hsql database. Thought I'd post a recap here, with an added bit from today. Before running the migration assistant; Ran SHUTDOWN COMPACT against the original hsql odb which then had a 32.8 Meg disc image. - pass one started At the 4 hr and 30 minute mark I stopped the soffice process because I had an idea. Did the following; Dropped all indexes on all tables, recalling this schema is a reporting dataset generated from a larger transaction set so lots of indexing on a smaller number of tables. With all indexes gone and cleaned up the disc image was down to 18.5 Megs. Started - pass two Can't say exactly how long it took, as it was late and after seeing this change; during the first run the soffice process was writing data to disc at a steady ~500K Bi/s, during the second, without the indexs, the throuput went to ~1.2M Bi/s; I went to bed. In the morning and the migration complete the disc image was now 24.8 Megs Picked that migrated file up again today adding back all, exact, indexing and then jettisoned the old hsql files from the ODB. Final disc image, 6.4 Megs. BTW, the schema was advantageous in that it holds predominantly numeric data, all character data in varchar or char fields, no blob data at all. It included two text table definitions, which it dealt with properly by ignoring them. And a view which, unfortunately, referenced one of those - but the error again didn't stop the data load. Could be happier with the results here. My take away, how did I forget to check the indexing? I did NOT run any actual data through, just the column however. All the single data type tests I ran are found on the tdf nextcloud also. A link for that is https://nextcloud.documentfoundation.org/s/W92TGtQpprximdB (The are in the directory SingleFieldType) The idea is to end up with a collection of test files that pass through the migration function without error and with expected results. As the simpler tests pass I start adding a bit more (so first it was just column definitions then I added data) and as the project moves from stage to stage (Alpha, Beta, RC, ... HSQL to Firebird auto migration firebird data types
Hi, Looking at the open issues for the HSQL to Firebird auto migration functionality particular the issues regarding data types and other test files I put together a possible map of what I think makes sense in translating hsql to firebird types. [Read only view of it here https://nextcloud.documentfoundation.org/s/TTBT4fJ2xTdbMJQ ] I'm sharing it here for two purposes, first it would be a big help to have this type of thing with whatever the actual mapping is - so - if that is already set I could really use for someone to let me know what would need to change there. However; Secondarily and since it doesn't seem to be settled in the code at the moment I wand to propose this mapping. The are three suggested changes; first is to treat OTHER[OTHER] as a custom subt_type (-1) of blob instead of a CLOB as this would give the same behavior in Base with firebird as with hsql second is to treat HSQL Binary(fix)[BINARY] as Binary[BINARY] with sub_type of 0 or 1 based on a scan of some number of the records checking for text data And the third would be to display two additional labels in table editor (Memo[Blob] and OTHER[BLOB]) for consistency with the current UI using hsql. Either way it's good see the work going on and I'm excited to help as I can. Re: API-CHANGE - dropping string properties which use vnd.sun.star.GraphicObject URL
Howdy, Not at all sure this was from anything your work did, but to give you a heads up; Working with the latest daily build (may 4th) under Ubuntu 18.10 (64bit). Entered an issue today https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=117435 The issue includes two test ODB files, almost identical. Single table, form with image control, report (RB) with image control and 3 test images. File one stores the images in the embedded database. File two stores a URL to external image files. File one (Image binary in table) works as expected under 6.1 for both the form and report. However It fails to display any image data after migration to a Firebird data engine. File two (URL in table) works as expected before and after the migration to Firebird. So, as I said thought I would just let you know. Re: API-CHANGE - dropping string properties which use vnd.sun.star.GraphicObject URL
Howdy list, Reading over this, and sorry if this is a naive question, but I was wondering if this could effect the way image controls work in forms and reports. When an imagecontrol on a form (or Report Builder report) is linked to a character field in a data table the control reads a URL from the data field and loads the image into the control as the user moves through the table or as a report is generated. For a Form, the user can also insert a graphic into the control via the GUI and table column with the URL. Like I say I don't have enough detail knowledge of how this works, under the hood, to know if what is changing here could be an issue or not, so thought I would ask. Thank you for your time in advance. Re: Database migration in Base
Cool. Grabbed the 6.1alpha daily build just now and there it is as the default. Also grabbed a 6.04 and then the 5.whatever it is that comes out of the Ubuntu repo so I could create fresh hsql embed to open in 6.1. There are a bunch of older odb files on my computer which could feed some tests (some of them are too old to worry about I think) It's a been a long while since I did anything here but I'll put some time into testing and send feedback on the list and bug tracker. I doubt I'll build from since I am comfortable grabbing daily builds on a regular and frequent basis. Thanks for you efforts. Built against master v 3.5 Noticed that talk about using system libs over building then, seemed like this was the perfect use for such, and did so for every case I found listed. Fired LOoL up..and nothing - doesn't quit with an error - doesn't respond to a request from the client either. :-( checking...failed to include --enable-gtk3 .. ooops ..and it's off running make once again. so - I'll let you know what's up a little later it seems.. Just to wrap this thread up, I suppose. Well, after adding --enable-gtk3 it works. Had some issues related to the firewall, but got around that - turned it off (not likely a good long term solution :-) WebSocket support was (is) an issue. - Win7 and Vista with ie9: Fail - HP Mini 110, Mi (Linux) w/ FireFox [latest updates applied]: Fail All the other browsers I tried (FF under Natty, Chromium, Opera): Pass @Andor - if you just want to play with this, I could point you to a VM with everything pre-installed - I'd need a day or 2 to put it together I suppose, just let me know. Lionel, do you have a recipe for database-dummies how to actually test the postgresql-sdbc functionality? To really test it, you need a PostgreSQL server. However, you can do a very limited, but still meaningful, test without it: - Menu: File / New / Database - Connect to an existing database: PostgreSQL - Next - Datasource URL: host=localhost - Next - User name: blank - Test connection - the error message should be along the lines of: Couldn't establish database connection to 'sdbc:postgresql:host=localhost' could not connect to server: Connection refused is the server running on host localhost (::1) and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432? could not connect to server: Connection refused is the server running on host localhost (127.0.0.1) and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432? If you get any other error message (such as no driver registered for URL), then there is something wrong with PostgreSQL-SDBC or LibreOffice more generally. I you get the error message only with 127.0.0.1 and not with ::1, that's fine and not a problem. - OK to click error message away - next - no, do not register the database - uncheck open the database for editing - finish - choose a filename to save file to - save - close libreoffice - open libreoffice again, open file you just created - in the left part of the main screen, click tables You should get the same error message as above with test connection. If not, it is a problem. As to installing a PostgreSQL server, rather easy on Debian GNU/Linux and probably most other distros. Make sure you get version 8.4 or later. aptitude install postgresql sudo -u postgres createdb -O $USER name_you_choose $USER's test DB psql --db name_you_choose CREATE TABLE names ( num serial, name varchar(30) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (num) ); # It says: # NOTICE: CREATE TABLE will create implicit sequence names_num_seq for serial column names.num # NOTICE: CREATE TABLE / PRIMARY KEY will create implicit index names_pkey for table names # CREATE TABLE INSERT INTO names (name) VALUES ('Alice'), ('Bob'), ('Eve'), ('Mallory'); INSERT INTO names (num, name) VALUES (0, 'Nominem incognitum'); \q #back to the shell Now, do as above in LibreOffice, except put: Datasource URL: host=localhost dbname=name_you_choose User name: Your UNIX username Do *not* check needs password. You'll see in tables the names table. You can double-click on it and modify data, insert new data, delete row, etc. There is a rather extensive test(s) that I've been building I put the very first nugget of it to the wiki a while back http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/User:Drew/BaseRegTest001 have not kept the wiki up to date, but I have extended it quite a bit, locally. The next would be a place - on the first I can't really help much, but on the second I might be able to. The thought that came to mind was the Ohio Linux Fest (Columbus Ohio) in September. I won't bore you with details, but I think if we moved quickly we could get the resources needed for such an event. So - if you are in the US or Canada and would be interested in working on putting this together, please speak up. Thanks much, Drew Jensen ___ LibreOffice mailing list LibreOffice@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice
Re: [Libreoffice] Does OO/LO have an API?

Cheers, Hi Thorsten http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/API This is not an API - it seems to fit the definition I was taught? I'm not saying your wrong, just do not understand your answer here. Is there something about Libo that is changing all this or is it just that right now there is no API work on new features found only in LibO? I have to admit that I've not installed a LibO SDK, something I did always under OO.o, is there a big change? [Libreoffice] Consulting services required
Howdy, There are two Linux festivals in the month of March in the USA, one established, in Washington state{1] and the other a first time event in the state of Indiana[2]. In both cases the organizers would like to have a presentation about TDF/LibreOffice and in both cases it appears there is a person willing to stand and deliver same - so just a quick heads up, will be looking for some input in creating this (these) presentation, to get your input on what you (the developers) would like highlighted. Apologies for the rather late notice. [Libreoffice] (OT) Windows shared package manager, CoAPP ready for 1st binary release
Hi, Thought some might find this interesting. The CoApp project [1] is scheduled to release first CLI binary for folks to play with tomorrow. In a nutshell this is a community developed shared package manager for MS Windows under an apache license, lead by a MS engineer in the MS OSS center in Redmond, with many non-MS devs involved. For a quick overview, a teaser video[2], if you just want the elevator pitch :-) Not 100% certain, but I believe this early version will support non-CoApp specific MSI installation packages also, not sure to what extent however. The native windows GUI is yet to be wrapped up but it will more or less just run the CLI tool, IIRC. Anyway - as I said, perhaps someone here might be interested. [Libreoffice] Error in en_us readme file ?
Hi, Received a message from a user today regarding the install instructions within the en_US readme file covering Mandriva: 'Doing commands like su urpmi *.rpm won't work; it either has to be sudo urpmi *.rpm or su -c urpmi *.rpm' I have never used Mandriva so don't know and thought I'd ask before just opening a bug report for him. No PR ? :-) even the home page don't mention it. Howdy, Well the user/enthusiast base (perhaps that is the term) sure hit it big. Just before the announcements (blog, announce list, first press coverage) the LibreOffice twitter stream was running at it's normal baseline of ~20 posts per hour - that stream peaked about 2 hours ago at 687 posts per hour - currently running in the low 400's with a bevy of on-line publications posting release announcement stories within the last hours. (and when I say bevy I mean bevy - found a 2 paragraph announcement at the Omaha Nebraska paper's website..Omaha Nebraska?..OK it wasn't quite as prominent as the daily farm report but one has to consider the local, which makes it fairly impressive actually) Are you certain ? ;-) read again - I guess perhaps the blog entry is not so prominent at the bottom ... perhaps we could have a more happy/clappy type front-page for the first day. Then again - this is the 1st time most people will hit that page I suspect. Perhaps for our next release, we will have an orange and green blink-tag saying New ;-) Really - well if that is what you want...*chuckle* Drew ___ LibreOffice mailing list LibreOffice@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice
[Libreoffice] Question about changing the URL for extensions and templates
Hi, I was wondering - and yes I am being lazy - does anyone know off the top of their head if it is possible to change which URL is used when the user clicks on the get more templates and add new features.. buttons on the start center and from the extension manager, short of a recompile? Are those URLs stored in a configuration file that can then simply be updated? Ok - found it: main.xcd - extensions and templates brand.xcd - dictionaries In case anyone wonders why (doubtful..*smile*). Looking at a few school districts that are currently using OO.o I have found that some of them have opted to run their own sites for acceptable extensions / clipart / templates. I have heard also of a firm in Japan that is doing the same for extensions and templates. This gave me an idea to possibly create a distribution, not of just the office suite but of a small business server (SBS), targeted to document production use and expecting LibreOffice on the client machines. One of the ideas I had was to make it possible for the SBS to offer the option of supporting these internal repositories, right out of the box more or less, and in these cases a simple way to have the LibO clients in the organization point to these internal repos. Anyway - off for more fund and games with the SUSEStudio tool.. drew ___ LibreOffice mailing list LibreOffice@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice
